I have a feeling that all of the people who are playing call of duty 4, will continue to play call of duty 4 because of the tired era used time and time again by most first person shooter companies. Im not sure about u but i had enough of WWII, its a tired war that is constantly being used by companies because it was the only war in history defined as a "justified" war. Im glad that we continue to reflect on that period in gaming but come on this is rediculous, I was hoping they would keep it modern era because the modern era guns are bada ss and things now a days seem way more intense then some german back drop, or a forest in japan. As for me my choice is obvious, i will probably continue to play call of duty 4 because the multiplayer will be modern era, i'd fire with an M16 then some Colt 45. I feel like Call of Duty 5 will be a good game but it wont compete with its predecessor in the long run.
I sort of see where you're coming from. But CoD5 looks just different enough(in setting and gameplay) to make it feel fresh. The Pacific theater is barely used in most WWII shooters. The only problem will be if Treyarch can make CoD5 as good as 4. Also, I think we've actually played more FPS's in some modern, dried out desert environment than games set in the Pacific theater. Tbh, I think modern will soon become the new WWII and terrorists will become the new nazis.
Btw this may sound like nitpicking but one of the major sidearms you use in CoD4 is a Colt .45.
