Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 - Another MW3 and The Moon?? Urgh.

First off I'm a big fan of every Call of Duty up to and including World At War and I quite liked Black Ops with it's Cold War storyline. While I disliked the repetitiveness of MW2 and MW3 and the general over the top storyline in both games, I was borderline optimistic for a return to Black Ops and it's Cold War storyline. However now it's been floating around the web before the reveal today that the new installment from Treyarch will be set in the near future based on the presence of the Avenger drone in one of the released images which only came into service in 2009. Also one image just includes the word Tacitus, which is the name for a moon crater. Really? The moon? So now not only does it look like we'll get another MW3 but also a storyline even more over the top and just plain ridicolous. Seriously, if I hadn't had enough of Call of Duty by now this could very well be the icing on the cake.

There is literally nothing but rumors now, so you might want to wait for actual news before assuming it takes place on the moon.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to the near future setting. It'll allow for more creative freedom concerning weaponry and the like. Should be nice to play a game where you use the same weapons as virtually every other game.

And the irony is that the game will play exactly the same.

The "over-the-top" story and settings were the reason MW3 and MW2 were so much fun to play through.

They already did that, so zombies on the moon is just old hat.

I don't like the sound of the "near future" setting. Sounds too much like MW3 to me.

We shall see. Too little information released yet. I enjoyed Black Ops far more than the Modern Warfare games so hope this will be good. COD is feeling a bit worn out for me having played four of them now so I will wait till Black Ops 2 goes on sale/price drop/second hand before I bother regardless.

Like a previous poster said, this is all justspeculation at this point, nothing more.

I think Treyarch (after Infinity Wards main men left) is the best CoD developer right now, so try to have some optimism, who knows what we'll get. No use in being disappointed in something that may, or may not exist yet.

Tacitus was a roman writer/historian...and the moon crater was named after him.
I seriously doubt the moon is somehow involved, Tacitus may be a codename that's symbolically related to what the ancient Tacitus did.

I'm pretty sure they said Tacitus has nothing to do with the historical Roman figure, but there is a latin sayin "semper tacitus, semper fidelis" which translates to forever silent, forever faithful.

I'm surprised, doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. The thing about COD is that while it might not do much anything new from year to year, it is still in my opinion easily one of the best multiplayer shooters on the market.

Really? I would argue COD4 has literally the worst MP design in the history of gaming. COD3 s MP design was argueably the best MP design & the one Cod should have stuck with. Every Cod after it continued with COD4s MP design & made it even worse. COD4 is literally the reason i stopped playing Cod

I would have thought we'd see more of the real cold war but maybe in the 80's. Really wasnt expecting Call of Duty Roblops.

Im definitely not the 1st or only one. Many of the original fans feel the same & actually find the orignals better. I know others who hated COD4 too.

Theres basically 2 groups of Cod fans. Theres the original Cod fans that have been there since the beginning & then theres 19 million other people who didnt know Cod existed until Cod4.

The reason Cod is so popular today is because it attracted a whole new crowd with Cod4. The reason the MP is the same every years is because Activision wants to keep the same Cod4 design with each game as they know its what made Cod the biggest selling franchise.

Thats why its the same every year. Because the majority of Cod players became interested in Cod because of that MP design. Activision will not abandon its design for fear of losing the majority of the fanbase.

I'm greatly interested in Black Ops 2. According to Wikipedia, one of the themes of the game is a "21st century cold war." That should be interesting.

Meh. This will be the first one I won't be buying. While I'm pleased that by the sounds of it half of the game is set in the Cold War era from the last game and the other half in 2025, theres just no point spending aload of money on a game of which only half I really want to play. The whole over the top-ness of the 2025 setting is still completely putting me off. There exists not a strand of DNA from (in my opinion) the better half of the series i.e up to Call of Duty 4, and that greatly dissapoints me.

I'm surprised, doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. The thing about COD is that while it might not do much anything new from year to year, it is still in my opinion easily one of the best multiplayer shooters on the market.

In my opinion, with MW3, it just felt like I was going through the motions. It's been that way since MW1 and MW2 to me. I'm sure I'll have that same feeling for the campaign in Black Ops II, but the truth is, I enjoyed the storyline in BLOPS 1 a lot more than I did with any COD game to date and that's because it tried for a different approach. I mean, the whole flashback, narration technique isn't anything different, but it was a nice change of pace and I was curious to see what happened until the final credits rolled on the screen. So with Black Ops II, the idea that it's taking place in both the past and future, the idea that they are going for a well-developed villain, stuff like that has my interest peaked for the campaign. Sure, it may feel like going through the motions, yet again, but that's OK.
