Hi - I am a Brit who is on holiday in California and I'm looking to pick up some cheap games / consoles while I'm here. Where are the best places to buy games from in your opinion? I've visited Target (quite good), Best Buy (great prices - not the best selection) and Circuit City (pretty awful) so far.

Where's generally cheapest? And where is best to pick up some rarer items (I'm looking for a Gold Zelda DS Lite and Ace Combat on 360 with the flight sticks).

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you want the best deals I would go with best buy or something, but if you want a better selection try gamestop.

I don't blame you for wanting to buy games here. The exchange rate is ridiculously good right now!

Good luck to sir, California is a huge state. You most likely won't find those items you mentioned, ACE Combat 6 with the flight sticks was very limited and expensive, Zelda Gold Edition DS pak was very limited and in high demand. You might try Gamestop or EB to get a used AC6 and sticks but I would wager anyone who put out the money for those, is keeping them. You might want to pick up a phone book depending on what part of Cali you are in, there are some great speciality stores in the larger city areas. Sony Metron Mall is very cool. http://www.sftravel.com/metreon-san-francisco.html If you are in that area. There are others but I don't where or what. I'm from IL I just have heard about that Sony Mall.

Wal-Mart is worth mentioning.
They don't necessarily have great prices on new games but they often have a bargain bin with dirt cheep ds, X-box and PS2 games. Sometimes a low as 5 dollars.

I absolutely recommend you hit up the GameStop web site, look up the stores in your (current) area and call around for your hard to find (used) games. The store locator will give you the locations of both GameStop and EB games. Provided your in a larger metropolitan area chances are there are more than 5 within 25 mi..... ahem... 40 or so kilometers ;) of you. I have 6 within 10 miles and 9 within 25 miles of my house.

Gamestop will have the biggest selection and will have discounted used games but almost all new games there will be full MSR price.

Depends on where you're at in California really...
I usually check GameStop/EB, SEARS, Best Buy, Toys R Us, and Circuit City.
You can also try Flea Markets/Swapmeets.

The ToysRUs near me tends to have stuff that was sold out everywhere else (eg: they still have a couple brand new 60gb PS3s). I would try looking for some of the rarer stuff at a TRU or some other shop that people don't typically associate with buying games.

Fry's might be a good try, though there's not a huge number of those stores around.

I agree with Frys. They have a pretty good selection.

But a lot of these stores only stock on the new stuff. But I think overall from my shopping experiences, prices have been the same, except Circuit City and Gamestop. I mention Gamestop because they sometimes higher the prices on certain titles especially new DS games. But it's only been DS games. I think console and PC games at Gamestop is the same as majore retail stores.

You can also go with places that price match. I know Best Buy matches prices. I got a few games for cheaper there because of price matching. But you have to have proof with you like a receipt or a magazine article, etc.

That's great - thanks guys. I've hadn't even thought of trying SEARS. I doubt I'll find what I'm after but at least I know where to look now. Thanks again.
