Why would you use a dumbed down version of a PC game for comparison?

Because Super Mario Bros was a launch game, and Metal Gear came out in 88, I believe? And if it's such a big problem, pretend you're voting for the kinda OK MSX version.
Having lived through that period and since I played both games Metal Gear was the better game. Super mario bro was revolutionary for its time but Metal Gear was more fun and engaging. Metal Gear back then wasn't the phonominom it is today. There were so many games on the NES that Metal Gear kinda got lost in the shuffle umong gamers.
