I am so glad for this forum! I never thought of myself as all that retro but I find that I drift to this forum, and this forum only. What a breath of fresh air to find other people who like old systems as much as I do. Sort of feels like other people "get it" like I do......feels good.

Just wanted to say thank you all for "chewing the fat" about old games. (and if you know that expression, you were probably gaming all those years ago like I was ;) )

Maybe a question before I leave the post.

How old were you when you REALLY got into gaming and what system sucked you into gaming?

For me, I was 19. Gaming was pretty new back then (NES was the big system), but I did play some old Atari at my cousins house. My family was far too poor to even consider a video system. It wasn't until I got out on my own, and the job I worked at had a NES in the break room. I discovered Legend of Zelda and Mario on that machine. Such great memories, and the start of a long, long journey of gaming. It was around 1988. (played that Atari was back in 1982 though)

How about you?

Agreed- I keep up with all the new stuff but can't seem to fully put away those systems that were there through all the years. In fact I recently revisted my Dreamcast and picked up a whole bunch of games I was curious about but never got around to picking up back when the console was new. I began gaming in the early 1980s as a kid with an Atari 2600 but (and I'm showing my age here for sure) consider REALLY getting obsessed when I got the NES in 86.

For me it started with a Tandy/Radio Shack home pong machine in the late 70s and then a Colecovision and it hasn't stopped.

I just played Zaxxon earlier today on my PS3 courtesy of the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection and it's still fun. I remember playing that at the arcade and then getting it for the Coleco and thinking how awesome it looked.

I just wish someone would put together a commercial Coleco game collection - I'd pay for that in a heartbeat.

This forum and the candid collectors union are really about the only two places I really frequent on this site. I got started gaming at the end of the 2600 era and near the beginning of the NES era. I never really considered myself a collector (although I had a couple hundred games) until I found my home at this site. However, things have gone downhill a little over the years here at gamespot in my opinion, it is still my favorite place to come to kick back and actually try to have a retro game discussion over the internet.

I like this forum since there is more talking aobut video games and less arguing about what system is better. My opinion on the issue is if it plays video games, I like it.

D'awww, thank you TC for your awesome post! I love seeing these kinds of topics from users.

To answer your question:

There was never a time where I was not a gamer. My mother and father were avid gamers so our house hold was always one that appreciated it greatly. To the point where when I would go to my friends houses and their parents DIDN'T game I thought they were weird and doing it wrong.
