Can I (properly) play R6 Siege without a headset?

Hi,

I hate gaming with headphones and headsets, and I wonder if playing Siege without a set is practical.

I would appreciate the input from players of Siege as to how often voice chat is being used, and how essential you find it to be.

Thanks.

It can be played without one but you will get a much better experience talking to teammates and friends imo. The game is tactical and requires teamwork. So communicating is big.

You can I use a headset but it gets uncomfortable if I play for a long session so I do switch to my monitor speakers. It's ok, but you gotta keep it on high because certain sound you really gotta hear.

Up to you, I played it originally with headset cuz I had friends over and needed to talk with them while playing.

Surround sound works too.

I'm playing the game mostly on my Schiit stack/Beyerdynamics dt 990. The sound design in this game is mind blowingly good.

Just get a desktop standup mic and a comfy pair of headphones, no need to use a headset

as per your question, your ability to play Siege effectively will be limited without using a mic of some kind

I do have a standalone Zalman mic that attaches to a shirt or whatever and sounds very decent.

I also have a pair of Zoro headphones which sound great, but I can't connect them to my current sound card, and as I said I don't like headphones. They give me headaches.

Maybe a combination of speakers and a mic would work, but I'm worried about sound from the speakers leaking into the mic.

you could set the mic as 'push to talk' and it would probably be ok.

Is is the speakers being close to your ears you dont like, or the head-squeezing sensation? I used to have this problem but started buying Pioneer headphones that fit more loosely (I use these) and I can wear them indefinitely without feeling like my head is being squeezed.

Push to talk, right, good idea.

I don't like either fact about headphones. Besides, my current speakers don't have a headphones out and neither does the sound card, so I can't plug a pair.

Wish it was a F2P game. I'd actually have given it a try.

Thanks, footsteps are important in CS GO. Are they as important in Siege?

If you don't chat with your teammates you're missing out on the experience of being able to give each other feedback or organize strategy.

Of course I'll chat, I do have a standalone mic which worked fine in CS GO. I just don't want to use headphones of any sort, and I'm afraid hearing footsteps is vital in this game.

If they made it F2P, I wouldn't even play it. I just wanna pay for the game once, and have no disturbances throughout the rest of the gameplay, like "oh, you have 4 base classes, and you have to buy the other 16(out of 20 at the moment) just to play them" and "oh, you also have to pay money to gain normal RENOWN like you would've been getting if we charged you the regular $60"(even right now when you buy the game at full price they wanna rip you off by keeping the normal renown rate behind a paywall). I wouldn't even bother if it were F2P cause that is annoying. I'm not gonna support people who do not care about the game. But i'll let them off the hook with what they claim is a renown "BOOSTER" because from what i've heard all the other upcoming content is coming free, They just wanted to rush it out before xmas and not actually completely finish the game.

Care to elaborate more about that? What does renown even mean in this game?

@yonyz: It doesn't matter. You buy the game, it's yours and you play however you want it. Besides, you have better chances of survival on your own, if you're patient and smart. Let the cannon fodder rush into the buildings, which is 99% of the players.

It does strike me as the sort of game where communication with others is key. Where coordination trumps everybody running around doing their own thing.

So you could try but I doubt it'll work well.
