well, here's my problem. Im about... 300 kilometres too north. yes. kilometres.I Live in Canada. I love my country. and even though many people dont like the U.S.... I don't really have that big of a problem with them. one ploitical leader can't make the ENTIRE country bad.

but... there's still one problem. on itty, bitty problem that costs me about 10 dollars every time I go to my local Eb Games.

the loonie is at the highest its been in a while, almost 95 cents to every american dollar.

but why is it that I STILL have to pay 10 extra dollars for EVERY single game I get? and with consoles, its an extra 100!

I dont understand... shipping cant be THAT much of a problem, can it? Microsoft is in Washington and if a game needs to get to a place further south than ontario is north... they don't get charged extra. do they?and don't even say its trading, because we have NAFTA, and that would cancel out all other things. I can't seem to figure out where my 10 dollars is going.

so, that's my little rant... can anyone explain to me what's causing this? and does anyone else feel like they are getting shafted?

and sorry to everyone across the pond... must suck even more for you.

First of all its 95 us cents to 1 canadian dollar not the other way around.

Second, prices are all about marketing and location. You are most likely going to find better prices is better supplied areas (urban) than in the middle of nowhere (country). Also, the united states is a much more highly marketable economy due to the population than Canada, therefore the gaming companies focus more on us than other countries. Don't feel alone, your prices are similar to Europes and Australias

Yes,dont complain mate - average ps3 game cost in america is about 50-60 bucks right??? Aussie dollar is going at about 87 US cents atm, and converted we should be spending about 70-75 AU dollars on a ps3 game.... hmmm funny that most when first released are $110 AU which roughly turns into $95 US, and many stay at about 100 which is about 85-90 dollars US

Now THATS a joke

He meant to say 105 canadian cents cents to every american dollar. I agree with him, we shouldn't have to pay so much extra since our dollar is higher at the moment. Our games should only be a couple dollars more not 10+ dollars.

Unfortunately duty is such a scam, we can't order anything from the states without getting charged for it, free trade indeed.

GAme prices might come down depending on the exchange rate. I've noticed some books sell for less now than in the past because of the exchange. But then again, games have always been like 10 bucks more in Canada. At least we weren't paying the 60% exchange rate on top of 50 dollar games 5 years ago. Win some lose some. It sucks so I hit up EBay.

Console games goes for 600SEK (~89$) in Sweden so you have nothing to complain about, I'm guessing it has something to do with money being worth more/less in different country's.

Drive to America and buy your games there, you'll probably say money even though you'll have to pay for petrol lol. In the UK, the RRP for 360 games is £50, thats about $100. If you shop around you can usually get them for £40 but that's still about $80. And don't even get me started on release dates...we're STILL waiting for Rock Band!

UK prices are even worse, at about $80 a game on average (although this includes sales tax)

from what i know, the reason for the price not going down is because the games they are geting in have been ordered and payed for before the strong dollar. So with time they will order games for cheaper and we will get them for cheaper, i dont know if EB Games will do this but alot of big stores have told me this so im guessing that its kinda universal in canada.

Now it may seem just as simple as just shipping the game another 300km, but it's actually not. Since Canada is a seperate country the game publisher has to pay somebody to go through all the legal issues which range from import tarifs, to legal content. Then there's advertising, and there's the size of the market in the first place. I'm not sure what all these add up to in Canada but for countries like austrailia, and brazil they can be pretty steep.

Also publishers know that if they drop the price to US prices they aren't actually going to sell any more games. This is also the reason publishers pushed the price of games to $60 since retail studies had shown a significant amount of customers would be just as likely to pay $60 for their games as they would $50 (the whole it cost more to produce line was all publicity BS).

Do you have any proof of this? I heard this from quite a few people. Where do you get this info from?
