I have only play the fifth game and that was back in 2008, but why I can expect from the previous game?Everyone I hear from calls it one of the best games in the industry, but I really don't understand the nostalgia for this game. Any could give me some opinions on why its really good?

It's a really well designed game with great pacing, nicely varied levels, awesome bosses and enemies, very high replay value and all around terrific gameplay; it was also pretty innovative for its time (the OTS camera angle was first introduced here) and had incredible visuals and audio. It may not look seem as dazzling today as it was back then, but the gameplay firmly stands the test of time, imho.

I played it all those years ago on the Nintendo gamecube and this is what makes this game awesome for me! also welcome stranger, what are ya buying?

I have since played it on the ps2 and ps3 and neither played as well or as comfortably as it does on the gamecube. sure its a great game, but there are tons of better games than re4. also nostalgia is nostalgia, everything was better in the olden days.

It's a combination of a lot of things. When it came out, it had:

Great level design, well balanced gameplay elements, fun resource management, disturbing enemies and set pieces, wonderful graphics, a lengthy campaign, tons of replayability, etc.

Frankly I still think this game holds up now. I'll still go back and replay it, enjoying it more than the Dead Space games or any new RE titles.

I can agree with that statement, though I hate what it implies. Because really, Resident Evil 4 was a phenomenal success, and if they had just continued to evolve what made it great it could have manifested into an amazing series, instead of giant joke it is now.

Maybe it's more accurate to say that 4 was the beginning of the series' departure from formula. While many of the changes were welcome because they retained enough of the previous games, they just kept chenging shit until the current games are almost unrecognizable.

It was away from the normal Resident Evil camera angle, less puzzles and more action set in the same world. I enjoyed the darkness to it, but honestly I love the RE series and when this came out I was excited that it wasn't going to be a fixed camera.

You really won't understand what's so special about RE4 if you haven't played it back in 2005.Impressive level design and atmosphere, jaw-dropping graphics, era-defining innovations that became standards in literally every action game ever since (off the top of my head : over-the-shoulder camera or even introducing cover-based action ,which you saw in the fallowing year in the so-called Gears of War and then in Uncharted ,GTA 4 ,Max Payne 3 and every single action game )

The core shooting ans fun and varied, the level design is usually just open enough so you have room to maneuver, there's a lot of good variety in the level design and it has great pacing, along with excellent production values for its time and a hugely addicting side game with The Mercenaries.

RE4 is my all-time favorite game, such nostalgia. The villains in this game are rad and never get old. The Regenerators are scary as f*ck. So is the huge double-wielding chainsaw guy & blind prisoner.

Resident Evil 5 & 6 do not even compare, it is sad what has happened to that series on its steady decline.

I actually just finished the Wii Edition just last week. And I think the thing that impressed me the most about it is how well put together the action levels are. Its Seriously Impressive just how well put together they are. The game has a really nice tense feeling even though it is far more combat heavy then other games.

The boss fights still feel fresh and are quite varied. The biggest thing that feels dates in this game is probably the inventory system when it comes to switch weapons. It tends to pull you out of the experience. That and the dialogue is pretty awkward at times.

The game has aged quite well.

it makes me want to go back to RE5 and see if it holds up just as well.
