Can you guys recommend me a good cooperative game?

I'm looking for some good cooperative games to beat with a friend. I want something from the N64 era and before. It can be either simulatneous cooperative like Contra or alternative, like Donkey Kong Country. Any ideas?

Basically a lot of beat-em-up and sports games:

Bad Dudes, Battletoads, Double Dragon II, Double Dragon III, Kings of the Beach (can have up to 2 teams of 2 - 4 players), TMNT II, TMNT III on NES
Streets of Rage (series), TMNT Hyperstone Heist on Sega Genesis
Battletoads and Double Dragon, Final Fight 2, Final Fight 3, Knights of the Round, Magic Sword, Super Double Dragon, Sunset Riders, TMNT IV for SNES
Fighting Force (also on N64), Twisted Metal 2 for PlayStation

Those are some of the main games I remember playing with friends and family.

Add Captain Commando to the list of SNES beat em ups. It's much like streets of rage and the others, good times.

Yup, DD2 or DD3, they are awesome...very fond memories of those two games! If you had a sega genesis, I would recommend Road Rash!

I agree, the Road Rash games for Genesis are/were good games, but I didn't automatically think of Road Rash being any kind of cooperative game.

A couple other Sega Genesis cooperative games I thought of were Altered Beast, Golden Axe and Golden Axe 2. In a way, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is cooperative, allowing player 2 to take control of Tails.

We would play road rash 1 on 1, so awesome when you chained your friend of the bike! lol

For the Nintendo 64, Goemon's Great Adventure. Co-op isa blast in that game!

Metal Slug (Arcade/Neo Geo)

As mentioned Metal Slug - pretty-much the whole series.

I can't believe I forgot Contra and Super-C on NES.

I'm not sure if anyone metioned Elevator Action, Gun.Smoke, Ikari Warriors, Ikari Warriors II, Galaga, or NARC on NES.

Mercs in the arcade (it was a sequel to Commando) - it was probably ported to NES and/or Sega Genesis.

Rainbow Six - N64. I remember it being great with a couple of people.

Secret of Mana

From 64; none can top Perfect Dark. Co-operative, Co-co-operative, etc.
