It is amazing how far games have come, and the look so really now. The new unreal engine is the best I have ever seen in a game. But can you imagne what games will look like in the future. I don't even know, the look amazing now that I don't know how they can get even better. What do you guys think

Meh. We, or rather the next few generations will get bored with them soon enough. It's always the case.

I'm sure games will become even prettier in years to come, but graphics aren't the by all and end all. A game coould have the most beautiful graphics ever but have no game play and be too boring too play.

Gameplay should always come first before pretty visuals.

Photo realistic is the limit that graphics can achieve. So the industry will eventually get there with the next 4-7 Generations of game consoles.

The graphics in a game cannot advance beyond Photo realistic. Then developers can focus on story, gameplay, and be inventive. (graphics can only help a game like Tetris so far)

So now we have kinect,Move and wii motion controls and 3D is in it's early stages. So I hope that there is a holodeck type mechanism in the future.

Cost is the reason why the advances will be slow in coming. the graphics to come will be fantnasic but expensive.

The generation after the next will have graphics better than real life. Truth.

I really hope that we can achieve photorealistic graphics in the near future (although this would bring some problems in shooters and such), however the way we control games is far more limiting to the gameplay than graphics or the physics engine. A holodeck would indeed solve this :> or a VR helm, who knows.

More details is always nice, but this push to move graphics forward is destroying some small/indie developers and God forbid, genres! I realize this is not the main topic at hand, but I do like to remind you that gameplay takes precedence over graphics.

That said, the only graphics that I can image for the future are the photo realistic ones.

Graphics haven't progressed a significant lot this generation, and the limitation of console hardware is certainly at fault. However due to that same limitation this generation graphics have been moving towards optimisation rather than realism - better graphics on lesser hardware. Comparing to pre-2005, graphics back then really have leaped from single texture models to realistic characters.

I'm playing through Crysis 2 right now, some parts look uncannily real. And I'm playing it on the 360, which utilizes five year-old technology.

Photo-realism seems to be the big next step, though that's obviously still a long ways off. But before they get there they'll have to figure out a way to bypass the uncanny valley. Going for that level of realism now would only exacerbate that off feeling you get when presented with hyper-realistic characters. See such life-like characters have no real life in them would be very off-putting.

Still, it'll be amazing once we reach that level of graphical detail. The possibilities at that point are essentially endless.

I'd say BF3 is scratching the surface of that.

I imagine this, they all look EXACTLY like real life, spitting image, they all look the same graphically, and then some fanboy spurts out "(System) has the best graphics!!!!"

That's exactly what would happen more than likely.

I don't know, I still haven't seen graphics in games that look as good as the CG in Jurassic Park yet, and that movie is more than 15 years old!

I dont even expect real-life quality games any time soon, mostly because of development costs and such. Id give it 3 console gens at the least.

The new unreal engine has some pretty U3 reflections, i am not impressed. If anything the step down from c2 in c3 proves that we need better consoles. What i cant seem to imagine is when the new ones come out. THen we will see some impressive graphics.

Graphics can only go so far. There will come a point where they cannot be improved.

Even though this is far off, real time graphics that look like cinima. Oh, and rending everything about an object, everything down to it's very atoms.
