...a game that was way better when it was first released than when it was remade?

I'd say Tales of Phantasia. The Japanese version of the game is much faster and fun while the GBA version lacks speed which ruins some parts of battle.

Assault Suits Valken for the PS2. That's one of the worst remakes ever.
