My girlfriend does not like vgames and even dont want me to play. But I also know a couple that play WOW together :)
But the general idea is that most of the girls lack the gaming mindset so they cant enjoy it :P

My Wife plays a few games. She likes the Kindom hearts games, as well as a few others. I bought her a DS for christmas.

My wife and her sister love WoW more than I do. My experience with girl gamers is that they tend to stick to a game.
My wife is as obsessed with gaming as I am. We met when we were 17 and played Ocarina of Time when it first came out. We have been together through the N64, Gamecube, and now we have a Wii/360. She can beat almost any guy at Smash Bros (me included). So yes, they do exist. They are just hard to find, so if you get a hold of one don't let her go! :)

that is so wrong.
girls do have gaming mindsets, in fact a lot of girls I know play games all the time. Maybe it's why a lot of them ran out of steam to sit down and play video games.
Erm...yes they play games. They are people like any other. My GF is a pretty hardcore gamer and is even doing a course at uni so she can get into the industry.
No,of course not.
That was sarcasm.>_>
There are lots of girl gamers.I know quite a few. It's just been a common stereotype to think that males are the only ones whom can play games.
I play games on my PS2 and PS3 and I play horror games, action games, war games, ect.
I love games that are difficult ^_^
Yes girls play games, since I am one of them. I do tend to play challenging games. And occassionally, I get pissed off at them. XD
I know a lot of other girls who play games, albeit some of them are pretty annoying. My best friend plays xbox360, playstation 2, PC games. She is obsessed with Halo and World of Warcraft. I know this one hardcore annoying japanophile girl who plays plays Final Fantasy, KH, Tales, etc. Sometimes I want to break her face. One of my other best friends plays wii and DS. She is hardcore Nintendo fangirl. I have played just about every game system ever made(well, not really, but close) though I prefer the ps2, ds and psp, along with PC games.
Yeah, they do. You should have seen my girlfriend's face last night when she found out she could use the toilet in Condemned 2 for an environmental kill - as she watched the bum get slammed in there and then his head pounded into the toilet bowl, the look on her face was very similar to when I give her flowers or offer a backrub.DJ_Laehawt

There are more and more girls playing videogames now (I'm one of them) but you have to also understand how the gaming industry has evolved as a whole. I remember years ago, games on the whole really did appeal to men more so than women, and were marketed that way. Even Zelda was geared towards men (Remember the N64 commercial) then you have the real "hard core" games like Duke Nukem which really was a boy's toy. I am somewhat concerned over the new Duke Nukem game, I really can't see it thriving in todays industry...perhaps I'm wrong, only time will tell.
Another thing is, men's behavior online. I've had either one or the two experiences... "Oh wow, she's a girl...can you be my girlfriend?" (That's PG 13...a lot are ever cruder) and I've had teams on Rainbow Six who will just come after me, kill me and then "tea bag" me."
Then there's the other experience, when I'm winning... "I can't believe I'm getting beat by a girl" "Oh for **** sake you *****" etc etc
Saying that, I have met plenty of nice men online as well and those are the men who find themselves on my friend's list.
Gamer chicks are a fad just like the Wii. :PXBebop
Get out :P *jk*
Put in mind that there are tomboys, stay at home moms, college students, geeks, dorks, attractive girls and many kind of females who play videogames and not just one kind. Stereotyping is bad! I'm a weird and rare combination myself :P!
I have been gaming longer than a large majority of you have been alive. Big fan of FPS and survival/horror. Totally hate RPG's. I do however understand the question, because really in the grand scheme of things I think the ratio of male to female gamers is probably about 100:1 or more. I am sure there is a very sound scientific explanation for this somewhere, unfortunately I am way to lazy to go look it up. Probably the one that says that males are stimulated visually; actually that's the same study that explains why they like to look at images of scantily clad ladies but the study fits here as well, so I'm gonna use it.
Hardcore gaming is a fairly anti-social hobby, whereas most females are social people by nature who would get bored doing something by themselves for too long. There are exceptions to this though, as there are some females who can be just as anti-social as any guy. In fact, there are some all-female clans in online games who are extremely talented.

I think you can play alot of games and still have a healthy social life. Saying otherwise perpetuates bad sterotypes about videogame players. I know a few attractive, normal women who play quite a bit of videogames in their spare time.
My GF also plays the final fantasy games aswell she is a big fan of FFX and she basically done everything there is to do on it.
Can't believe this question is even being asked. If I'm not mistaken, girls and in general, women make up the fastest growing segment of gaming today. In my profession i've had many a conversation with a lady gamer who's knowledge of games was greater than many guys I know.
The question for me is, with so many lady gamers out there in ever increasing numbers, why aren't we seeing that reflected in an increase in the number of female lead characters in games? Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that females only play games with female leads. I know many of you ladies can kick tail in stuff like COD4. It's just for me Samus, Jade, and Ms. Croft have held the throne long enough. It's time to pass the torch on to someone new.
