Of all the games that came out this year, who do you think is the best video game character this year?
Aya from Assassin's Creed, if we are voting for best new character. Bayek might have been the main character, but Aya is the mother of the Assassin Brotherhood, and a complete and total badass.
Bayek is pretty good, too; he is the first completely likable protagonist in the AC series for quite some time (hated the pirate, hated the guy from AC3, didn't think too much of the male sibling from Syndicate)
I'd also like to offer up Senua as honorable mention (from Hellblade)
Jeff the engineer from F1 2017. always tries to be helpful. takes awful abuse from me in the game just because he makes a late suggestion on tyre strategy. every time there is an upgrade to the car he is always eager to let me know even so its just a reliability upgrade for a sauber. always looking for feedback etc.
what a trooper. the real hero at sauber :P.

Yeah, Aya and Bayek are both great picks.
Also William Blazkowicz, of course!
not trying to be a SJW or PC or whatever, but 2017 was a good year for likable and capable female characters, at least it seemed that way.
Probably Aloy from HZD since I have been playing that game for most of the year as I take time to finish my games, playing other games with them at the same time. However I also believe that Ellie, from Last of Us looks like the best female character to me even though Last of us II has not been released just yet, judging by her appearance and her quirkiness in the last game I think we can bring her back from the dead.
Also that Female Knight from For Honor, I haven't played it but she struck me as someone that deserved to be mentioned.
In Horizon Zero Dawn there are so many other characters such as Teb that I adore for his cuteness and his antics with Aloy that she just keeps on missing out and also the character development of Dervahl, I have a soft spot for him since his wife and children died and he was so blinded by all the Hades cause that he actually thought he was going to win against Aloy, the nineteen year old girl who seems to overcome veterans.
Haven't really experienced any standout characters. I liked Aloy at first. She had a good back story, and the intro/early scenes were cool, but then she became this generic, sassy, increasingly irritating lead. Which was unfortunate since the world was interesting and the game overall is pretty fun. Still not sure how arrows can take down giant machines (even the weak spots are made of super alloys)... but whatever.
Hmm. The Shadow of the Colossus remake just came out and I always liked the Wanderer (yeah I know he's a old character, but I really can't think of anyone)... his actions and determination in taking down towering giants speaks volumes beyond endless exposition and dialogue. The music, atmosphere and low key story all come together very well in that game.
