Has anyone noticed that they just aren't what they used to be?
It seems we have all been weened off of cheat codes. Now cheats are unlock-able, if in the game at all. What happened to the days of god mode, infinite ammo, etc.? Now it's unlock this achievement to get +1% hp regen, or beat the game to use cheat codes, but you can only use the ones you unlock...by picking up enough secret items in the campaign/story modes.
I remember games that allowed me to use cheats when I wanted to. Not after 10 f***ing hours of game-play, but the first minute of game-play. Granted, games were a lot harder back then. Now you have games like Mass Effect where I can waltz through the hardest difficulty almost as effortlessly as I did the casual difficulty. But still, cheat codes made the game playable after you've beaten the game legitimately. What happened to those days? I remember after I beat Jedi Outcast on the hardest difficulty without cheating that I wanted to go back through the game and just have careless fun with lightsaber battles that were worthy of my time. So cheating on the hardest difficulty gave a beaten game life again. There are very few games that I've played as long as I did Jedi Outcast. Secret of Mana comes to mind, but if not for Jedi Outcast's cheat codes I would not have played that long.
