Which should I play first? Explain your reasons for your answers too, please. Also, is it better to play Chrono Trigger with the original cartridge for the SNES or to play the Final Fantasy Chronicles version? Thanks in advance!

I would say play Chrono Trigger first because some parts in Chrono Cross will have more of an impact. I guess I would go with the Final Fantasy Chronicles version simply because it has some animated cutscenes in it but it does have some loading times in it.

Play Trigger first. I played Chrono Cross first and was confused as hell. Playing Trigger first will help with that.

I'd say Chrono Trigger.

Because although the stories are unrelated mostly, but Chrono Cross does have some Chrono Trigger reference you will miss if you haven't played the first game.

Chrono Trigger. You'll understand some parts of the story better.

Yeah you pretty much need to play Chrono Trigger first. Chrono Cross is a very confusing game even when you understand the events that set up Chrono Chross to occur in the first place.

I would avoid the PS version just because of the loading times and the music just dosent sound right but if you can afford the cart version which varies on on ebay for $50-70 depending on if you want the game complete but if not you can grab the PS version for about $10-15which is alot cheaper but with some drawbacks

edit: Chrono Cross has nothing to do with what happens in Chrono Trigger its pretty much another story like all FF games do, havent played CC but I would say start out with Trigger first

What are you talking about? I don't want to get into spoilers here but the events in Chrono Trigger cause the formation of the final boss in Chrono Cross to be born and many other things. It's a little overly complex, all the main events of CC are caused because of what happens in the time stream during CT.

I played Cross before Trigger, and it doesn't matter which you play first. You will enjoy either one in whatever order.

Yes, you can enjoy it whichever you play first, but you will definitely not understand some very important parts in Chrono Cross if you haven't played the first one, I'm talking about major, crucial story elements.

So I guess playing the first one is definitely recommended highly. There's just too many things in Chrono Cross that will be impossible to understand without playing the first one.
