I (sadly) haven't played Final Fantasy VII, but my username and avatar both give away that I'm a huge Chrono Trigger fan. I can't actually choose between the two, but I can definitely say that Chrono Trigger is one of the best games ever made (and no, I'm not a fanboy, I just like the game :P).
final fantasy has more to do, more of a time killer. though chrono triggers new game+ adds some good replay value. i suggest replaying the game until you can beat lavos at the very beginning in his most powerful form (this nets you the best ending iirc)
Chrono trigger blew me away the first time i played it. Final fantasy 7 blew me away x2 the first time.
If this were my r first time, id go with ff7

This is the correct answer.. and exactly for that reason.
They're both stellar RPG's who earned their place in the hallmark of greatest RPG's of all time, but if I were to choose between the two; I would unmistakably choose Final Fantasy VII. The emotional depth that game offers still hasn't been replicated or beaten to this day...
FF7 left a better impression in it's prime, though not by much. Chrono Trigger has stood the test of time much better, so in the long run it's the better game. In 1997 I would have taken FF7 over CT, but today? Chrono Trigger, all the way.
Hmmm...I'd say it's mixed opinions, but mostly, it's on the Chrono Trigger side. Final Fantasy VII was a blast, but I've gotta agree with the majority and say Chrono Trigger. I'm actually going to get Chrono Trigger on the DS just for the heck of it. I mean...it's Chrono Trigger on the go...come on...:roll:
