So I picked up a bunch of CIB games from GS this weekend. With the sale and the buy2 get 1 free, I made out like a bandit. They were:

.Hack 1

.Hack 2

.Hack 3

.Hack G.U. 1

.Hack G.U. 2

.Hack G.U. 3

Shadow Hearts

SMT Devil Summoner 2

Tales of the Abyss

Tales of Legendia

Mega Man X Collection

The amount of driving I did was worth saving $$$ vs buying them on ebay/amazon. IMO this is prime PS2 collecting time. I've not done a thread like this before but I'm so giddy I just wanted to share. Feel free to share similar experiences/or make fun of me for not having played these yet.

I will disagree wtih you.Now while I donot care for the .hack games, I will say that the rest of the games are quite awesome especially Devil Summoner 2 which is a highly ignored game even in the SMT fanbase. Luckily I got a copy of it a year ago when it was released and got the very cool Raidou Jack Frost doll that came with it.

Devil Summoner was at almost every location, and I saw two with the doll. The .hacks are harder, and finding all the .hack GUs at one location was a miracle, CIB. The copy of Shadow Hearts CIB was the only one I've seen in a store in about 5 years. Tales were really hard to come by about 6 months ago, suddenly I saw about two of each so I pounced. Mega Man X Collection is getting rare, but the prices being asked online are what motivated me to go ahead and grab it.

I've seen Persona FES 3 and Persona 4 a lot lately, but I know that won't last long.

Also forgot to mention Okami black label CIB. Dirst cheap compared to going Amazon 3rd party prices. I reckon Okamiden might be behind that.

Thanks for the replies!

I have heard getting all four of the .hacks is hard these days, particularly the original series, but I am not a big fan of that series, though it would be nice to have them as collectibles imo. Anyhow though your right, yeah it seems there are just lots and lots of Devil Summoner 2. Now did you get DS2, with the Jack Frost Raidou Doll or no? Yeah and those tales games are hard to find, I missed out on Tales of the Abyss and I really need to get that one...I am a huge tales fan as well so it sucks not having played that one. I gotta say though you got some good finds especially that Shadow Hearts one of my favorite JRPGs on the PS2.

The handheld ones don't seem to be as hard to find, but the console ones usually are. The only console one that isn't some what rare is Persona 3 and that is because there's two different versions of it for Ps2, the original and FES.

Yeah you can Find Devils Survivor, Persona 1 psp, and SMT Strange Journey quite easily(I Did not count P3P because it is so new and very easy to find either way) so your right. I have not seen many Persona 3 FES around much, and from what I understand the Original Version of Persona 3 is harder to find than any other version of the game. Though I may track it down some day, I am quite content with my P3 FES and Portables at the moment and would only get the original game for collectible reasons. As for P4 got a copy of that brilliant game so not worried about it, and my brother found a copy of it a couple weeks back in good shape for five bucks not sure where he got it though.

I found the original Persona 3 when I went to New York a couple of years ago for $14 new, so I was lucky to find it. I preordered Persona 4 and got all the special edition stuff with it. :D

Nice, yeah I got the artbook for both P3 and P4 as well. The artbook forP4 is quite nice. Unfortunatley my friend I cannot go to new york at the moment as I am very far away tucked away in the very plainsy and very mountainous land of Colorado. BUt fortunatley where I live I have been known to find some rare stuff at gamestop and at other game stores. I need to get a P3 original than if thats cheap.

I'm not looking forward to trying to track down .hack 4 Quarantine. Friggin expensive. But I'm enjoying the first seriesso far. I love action rpgs so I tend to be forgiving when they have flaws (I own and play Evergrace and Forever Kingdom if that tells you anything.) I think both the Tales games are pretty sweet. Tales of the Abyss is very reminiscentof Radiata Stories in terms of tone, gameplay- even the menus look similar. This is a good thing to me because RS was one of my favorite RPGs for the PS2. As for DS2 no I didn't get the colllector's pack. I'm not much into that sort of thing.

I just recently bought another PS2 (my original one died right around the PS2's peak) So I hit up various Gamestops to find some of the "post-PS2 breaking" games that I missed out on, or even just ones I originally passed up.

With the sheer number of Gamestop stores around here, I managed to find a TON for pretty damn cheap, and CIB too. ....I've bought 14 games in the past two weeks lol. 11 of which are RPGs, because that's my thing =D I noticed you have a better chance of finding a used RPG in excellent condition than any other genre.

Oh if its like Radiata stories than its defintely a must find for me for sure. I always find it interesting to compare the tales game to tri ace games as they have similiarities in them. I consider them sister series I guess, considering that the tales series creator Yoshiharu Gotanda is the head of Tri Ace and what not. So its always been fun for me to compare games like the tales and say Star Ocean and Radiata stories to each other. Its also interesting that Tales series Composer Motoi Sakaruba is also the composer for the Tri Ace games, which is just awesome. Its always fun comparing each series and what not...and its good to see other fans of Radiata stories out there.

Yeah I got the collector pack but thats because well the game was new and that was the only way I coudl get it, though I do like my raidou plushie.

In my city, Richmond,we have 20+ Gamestops. I hit them hard back in March when my wife commandeered our new PS3, before they deep sixed most of their game cases and booklets and put sold the games in paper sleeves. Really lucked out because now pickens are starting to get slim. I've noticed, like you said, more and more rpgs popping up, CIB. I got no complaint here. Also, they're the ones that are going to end up being worth more in the next1-2 years after GS stops carrying PS2 games. Good luck on your quest!

Yes this is a great time to collect PS2 game from gamestop. I done the same this year Currently I have 110 Playstation 2 games. The most I've ever had for any system. I have a backlog of about combined 25 games from PS1,PS2,PS3,PSP.

Great time to collect PS2 games since people are upgrading to PS3 or Xbox 360 etc.

Just make sure that the games are complete Manuals and proper Cases (not the generic gamestop used game yellow cases)

PS2 games are very inexpensive right now, so collect away. I just have to catch up on my gaming.

Yeah I hate when they don't at least come with the original box. I left a handful of games I wanted on the shelf due to this. Not only do I want the original box, but you gotta think, in what condition is the actual game in if someone just traded in a loose disc?

I did end up getting one game with a generic box though, just because I really wanted to play it, it was only $3.99, and was the only copy in the area. It's not even that good of a game lol MS Saga

Yeah, Shadow Hearts in incredibly hard to find. I recently found a Megaman X Collection, Ive been looking for that game for weeks, went in again yesterday and there was another one.

Odd how for a while you see a lot of a rare game, then you go for months without seeing another copy.

Shadow Hearts is a very dark and wonderful game. Its also one of the most tragic games I played along with Shadow Hearts 2. I like the fact too that the bad ending is actually cannonical as opposed to the good ending which is common in all games.

Yeah I've left quite a few games lanquishing on the shelf because they were missing the box. Every once in a while I'll grab a game with no book. Chances are sooner or later I'll see it and ask if I can take it. Ususally they're pretty cool about and let me have it. Today I'm heading to a couple of places because they're supposed to have Marvel vs Capcom 2 in stock. Keeping fingers corssed!

BTW I have MS Saga and you could do a lot worse. I had to have it cause it looked cool and I actually like most of the Gundam games on the PS2. Heard Gundam SEED sucked but I'm trying to find it anyway.

what´s MS saga?

ohthemanatee

It's a turn-based Gundam RPG.I would describe it as a poor man's Metal Saga, but with Gundams. When I bought it I thought the main character on the cover was a girl. Whoops! It's dirt cheap now so if you're even mildly interested it's worth picking up.

Yeah I couldn't finish MS Saga, got maybe 85% through the game though. The story and presentation of it was pretty uninteresting. Characters were uninteresting as well. The fights were fun and often challenging, but it just wasn't enough to make me wanna drag myself through to the end. I think the only thing that kept me going that long was being a big Gundam fan.

Mega Man X Collection is the only good game you got out of that list.

Tales of the Abyss? I heard that was a sick Tales game. I have just recently gotten to buying PS2 JRPGs, so I haven't gotten around to picking that one up yet.

It's already one of my favorite games for the PS2, regardless of genre.

Well I'm digging them so far. Hack isn't the best series but finding it for the price in store instead of paying out the nose online was definitely worth it. Mega Man X Collection surely needs no introductions, though. Freakin sweet.

Well I'm referring to black label CIB. Been in alot of Gamestop's lately and I've seen only 1. BTW Silent Hill 3 is the best in the series, IMO. Epic Fd up.

I picked up Tales of the Abyss the other week as well, though I haven't popped it in yet. As well as the first three .Hack games, haven't started on those either, but I've played a bit of the first game when it came out. I think I've bought too many games over the past few months lol.

I usually limit myself to one RPG at a time, but since I have so many new ones, I've kicked it up to one RPG per console at a time. Currently rockin' SMT Nocturne on the PS2, Demon Souls on the PS3, Star Ocean 2nd Story for the PSX, and been messin' around with Ultima Exodus on the ol' NES =D

Go on amazon and you can buy hundreds of PS2 games (good ones too) for an average of 3-4$. Quite a bit cheaper then GS

Nice finds (except Tales of Legendia). How much was Shadow Hearts? I've been looking for a copy myself that isn't expensive (I live in Canada).

Lowest price for Marvel vs Capcom 2 CIB on Amazon is $60 with shipping/tax. I got it for $32 this weekend. Lowest for Hack G.U. 3 CIB on Amazon is $50 with shipping/tax. Got it for about $16 factoring the 3 for 2 and the %20 off. Tales games and Shadow hearts also cheaper. Most people on selling thru Amazonusually charge$3-$5, and most people selling CIB tend to jack the prices. I rarely go to Amazon unless its for 5th gen or older games.

In store price is $29.99. But if you take advantage of the 3 for 2 sale and get comparably priced games, you end up saving alot. Plus there's 10% off PS2 which stacks with your rewards (10% off used). If you don't need CIB the price is going to be cheaper online.I'm finding alot of great stuff CIB being returned right now, probably cause of the holidays and some good 7th gen stuff on its way early 2011. Good luck!
