That'd be cool. There are so many choices and directions this series can go. They can milk the crap out of it because it is such a great idea. There have been assassins in so many periods of time. I think it would be funny if we could play an African American assassin fighting freemasons, the KKK, and the Illuminati. But being realisitic, I think Egyptian, Vietnam War, or maybe American Revolution would be good. It would be a bad move if they did WW2, Modern Day, or some other bold move like Alien Assassins or something. If everyone really wanted a WW2 Assassins Creed, they could just play The Sabotuer.
Since we are in the year 2012, it would be suitable if Assassins Creed 3 was the last game in the series since the story revolves around that. There have been 2 main game, 2 main spin offs, and handheld spin offs, that I think it is time they just ended the series and moved on. Then we can get Beyond Good and Evil 2 rolling out, but other than that, I really want a new franchise from Ubisoft. Rayman, PoP, and AC are nice, but I think it is time we get fresh new ideas.
That's really one of the biggest questions on my mind, after reading this. I can understand the Native American aspect of it - I could see new weaponry involved, like that tomahawk. I can imagine some nasty kills with it! But yeah; would the American Revolution backdrop work for a series like Assassin's Creed III?
Interesting, maybe with this they can finally pull away from the horrible melee combat system the franchise has been plagued by. But colonial era Boston and Philadelphia aren't nearly as interesting as some of the other locales we've seen in the games.meetroid8
I love the combat system. It works beautifully.

Agreed. The combat was beautiful to play around with and enjoy, but the one thing that I found to be a little irritating was how easy it can be. You didn't necessarily have to fight on your own all the time. You could call up your recruits and they would take care of it at anytime. And even if you did fight, you could sit there and pull chain after chain after chain combo to win. At least, in Revolutions, there was more variety, so you had to find different ways to deal with the enemy.
Also, one thing to note from the link above, the link claims that Ubisoft will reveal AC III on March 5th, along with pre-order bonuses. Very exciting! :)
This is looking pretty good. I wouldn't mind for them to wait another year or 2 to make it a great game. I'm only halfway through brotherhood too,YoshiYogurtAC3 has been in development for 3 years by the main team, they've had a lot of time with it - that's mainly why I'm excited.

I just hope they polished it well enough to make it a breath of fresh air for the series, you know? I'm really excited about it too. This is one of my most anticipated titles of the year. Three years is certainly enough time...I just hope they did an excellent job in keeping the core gameplay intact while surprising us with some good ideas. The idea of playing as a Native American will be VERY interesting!
Yes yes yes yes yes. That would be an amazing period of time to be a part of.dvader654

I don't know, trees and sh*t I guess? How developed was colonial America? I mean, I guess cities had developed during colonial times, you don't really think about colonial architecture, but they were under British rule for a century, so they had time to develop cities. Still buildings couldn't have been very tall and there are places in Europe that have a much longer history than America and better architecture. The arguement for America is that, eventually, one of Desmond's ancestors has to make it across the pond. The architecture is going to be an interesting hurdle, though. We may be looking at significant changes to the gameplay (much more combat based, much less climbing).
I could see a more crowd-based assassination gameplay in the towns, with forest levels and such to allow for some climbing of trees and ambushing of soldiers.

I disagree. Combat works, but the problem is the game is an absolute cakewalk. Enemies stand by and watch as you fight them one by one, mashing the attack button can almost always kill enemies without any other input, and overall there is just no challenge.
I've been playing Revelations and Arkham City over the past couple of months, and while both are good games Arkham City's combat blows Revelations's away. I'm not saying Ubisoft should make combat exactly like the system in Arkham City, but as it is right now something has to be done to change the combat.

Everybody seems to be mixed with this. I personally find the difficulty fine. Everybody wants something different. Some want more challenge, others dont, some even want the combat to be gone altogether & be a pure stealth game
If im really a badass assassin then i would think an assassin could take out few men in the blink of an eye. Being able to chain attacks & slaughter many enemies, very quickly is very satisfying. Others dont like it at all. I didnt care for the Brotherhood mechanic & chose not to use it, but the killstreak mechanic i take full advantage of it. I love it. I cant imagine playing without it now.
I remember playing AC1 & having a blast in the combat area. Every fight i would just wait for the enemy to attack & then counter kill. When BH introduced the killstreaks system for me it felt like they were taking the funnest part of combat & made it so i can chian it together. It was exactly what i wanted out of the combat, easy, or not. But thats just me & my preference

American Indians...there is something saying me that this is going to be good. Probably we will try and brake the colonies from the continent just to realize it is too late.

Based on what I've played of Revelations the developers seemed to have ramped up the difficulty significantly with the advent and proliferation of firearms.
If the game is indeed set during the American Revolution I would imagine the use of guns would be even more widespread and thus facilitate a greater level of challenge.
I too love the combat. It's not quite up to the level of something like Arkham City but it does a fantastic job of simulating sword play.
Would be awesome if they did change the setting, regardless of where it is. Should have been done ages ago to be honest.
Also, i'm in a thread about Assassin's Creed and i've seen the words "horrible melee combat system".
I've given up on gamers.

I've given up on gamers then. It was coming.
Good idea for a setting...lots of history and stories during that time.
I'm guessing more combat, and less climbing unless the assassin will be climbing trees, or church steeples for viewpoints. There wasn't a lot of tall buildings back then.
That is an awesome cover! I love it!

You do realize that Arkham City and AC have the same system implemented differently, right? Both can counter, both can string multiple attacks and both of the games have only a few AI's that attack at once. In Revelations, it was up to one man fighting and another doing long-range combat. In Arkham City, it was up to three guys attacking in your given range. So for you, it's really all about the amount of attackers at once.
And truly the biggest difference was that characters in AC didn't take enough damage when getting hit.

I'd love for one of the people claiming the melee is poor to defend that position and explain, in some detail, precisely why they feel as they do.

Can you please explain why you feel that way though? Because I'm curious to hear it; AC's combat wasn't terrible. It was fun, challenging, and satisfying. Was it too easy? Sure, but that didn't take away the fun out of it.
Cool concept.
Will the story involve conspiracies like Wilkes Booth shooting Lincoln?
And then AC4 could be about JFK lolol

Um, The American Revolution was almost a hundred years before Lincoln's assassination. We'd be looking at Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Revere, Madison, Adams, etc. in this time frame as far as famous patriots and the like. I fully expect Benjamin Franklin to be the Leonardo DaVinci of this game, and Jefferson to be the Machiavelli.
Wow! I can't wait to climb those... 4 meters tall houses they had at the time... :/Black_Knight_00

A very astute observation.
And Archer is one of the greatest things to ever grace the medium of TV; comedic genius.

That it be. As is Dark Knight to the medium of film.

The first thing that stroke me as well. The "cities" that existed were very very small at the time.
Wonder if you will be able to slaughter native americans, I assume killing anyone with any colour of white is fine and dandy.
