played only an hour of oblivion and couldn't get into it. but having read peoples comments on skyrim i am seriously considering it.

so, for anyone who hasn't played an elder scrolls game before skyrim and has skyrim, would you say it was worth it? persuade me people!

Putting one hour into a game of this size is no where near enough to judge it. Go and rent or borrow it for a few days and see if you like it. Thats all you can do really.

I was in the same position as you. Now, having bought Skyrim, I have to say, if you remove the elder scrolls from the name, it feels like a different game in a MUCH better way than oblivion, so much so, it will blow your mind.

Don't spend $60 on it - it's $54 on GMG. :P

It doesn't even feel like an Elder Scrolls game (no stiff animations, no butt-ugly characters, leveling up isn't a pain in the ass :P). Still, if you couldn't get into Oblivion, I'd try a rental first (while it's a lot better, the core mechanics are pretty much the same: slow-paced, tons of exploration, etc.). Best I can describe it is Oblivion taking the better parts of the Fallout titles and beefing up the graphics.

I'm perfectly happy to wait until they fix the bugs, and pick it up when it hits the bargain bin. Reading the reviews of it is almost comical - like some sort of orgasmic love letters to the developer or something.

I'm in the same boat as the op. The game looks good but, I think I would rent it first.

There's a lot of awesome, grand stuff about the game, but none of it saved me from the fact that the way I was interacting with it all was flat out boring.

So basically the same problem I've had with every other Bethesda game in the past, minus the stupid looking characters this time.
