Gamestop has simply caved in to pressure, giving up 90% of their xbox used margin in order not to lose MS' business. It's not like they're to blame for this crap.
That said, I've already been boycotting them for years, for other reasons.
Their to blame because their encourage people to buy used even if it's 5 bucks cheaper. That's whats doing most of the harm around used games.Gamestop has simply caved in to pressure, giving up 90% of their xbox used margin in order not to lose MS' business. Enourage but not force people to buy used.
How much does Gamestop make off new games?
I already boycott Gamestop, for reasons entirely seperate from next gen consoles.
It won't make any difference, Gamestop doesn't want this in the first place.
Gamestop WANTS used game sales. They haven't pushed for this. Boycotting console makers and publishers that adopt anti-consumer practices would do more good. rragnaarpretty much this, if you want to make a statement don't buy games with features that you don't like.
The blocking of preowned sales is up to the publishers anyhow, at least reportedly, so boycotting Gamestop would do no good. Publishers will implement this if they choose to do so, if not then Gamestop will notice very little difference, at least with those games.
Imagine if we got a huge movement going where we'd all refuse to shop at gamestop, do you think that could persuade them to return the ability to play used games and get rid of other bad features ? dkdk999gamestop has no say in what gos into games dude. they didnt develop them also give it 2 years and they will be extinct do to xbox ones garbage about used games.

Gamestop has never been the sole provider of used games. They encourage people to buy used games from them because it's all profit, but when it comes to it, people buy used games because they're cheaper. It doesn't have to be from Gamestop or Best Buy or any other retailer.Â
Imagine if we got a huge movement going where we'd all refuse to shop at gamestop, do you think that could persuade them to return the ability to play used games and get rid of other bad features ? dkdk999No, this makes no sense at all. Gamestop is not the only used game company of there. So how would boycotting stop this from happening? The truth is that they shouldn't have online activity period.
Boycott EA and Microsoft - they're starting to sound like two branches of the same company these days. Both wildly unsuccessful in their recent endeavors, not surprisingly.
Gamestop doesn't have anything to do with it - they're the ones who stand to lose a ton of business due to always-online DRM. Besides I've been boycotting them for years and it hasen't done any good :)
[QUOTE="MAILER_DAEMON"]GameStop isn't the company to avoid here; it's Microsoft. If you want to take a stand on this issue, simply don't buy the Xbox One.dkdk999You guys don't think gamestop is screwing developers over ? Of course they are, have been for many years (though people who trade in with them are ultimately to blame), but simply not in this case: they'll have to give up 90% of the money they make on used xbone games, they're being screwed themselves. The only aspect of this whole matter that's good for them is that ebay and craigslist are cut out of the loop concerning Xbone games, so people will have to pass through them and a few other retailers if they want to get rid of their old games.

Maybe I'm missing something but to me it seems like people who buy and sell games on ebay are "screwing developers over" just as much as Gamestop is. Should we boycott all secondhand game transactions?
this this this times a millionSo much Gamestop hate.Â
Boycott publishers who pull this shit - not Gamestop.

By his definition, secondhand books, movies, music, etc is "screwing" the original creators over...so tell me. why is it that the game industry is the only one that feels its being "stolen" from?

Quite the opposite actually. Retailers make next to nothing on new game sales, and when I say next to nothing I mean their profit is in the single digits per sale. Selling a single used game at $40 is a bigger profit for them than selling 3 brand new games at $60. The industry created their own problem because they were greedy. Now they want to stomp it out because they don't like the competition.

This is factually incorrect. MS has already stated they charge no platform fee to retailers or publishers to use the cloud service. MS has stated it will be up to the publishers to decide if they will enact any fee for used games or to restrict the second-hand sales of specific games.
it still amazes me how a publisher like ea is still around. no gamer trusts them and they were indeed voted worst company for 2 years in a row i also think they even are in some finacial troubleBoycotting products that provide the tools for DRM would get rid of it.

Most of the video game industry is in financial trouble honestly. They have been for some time. Not "the world is ending and the sky is falling" trouble mind you, but a lot of companies have barely been able to tow the line for the last several years. I mostly blame unrealistic sales expectations. I would say any person who posts on these forums could tell these companies that there's no chance *insert random game title here* is going to sell 5 million copies, let alone in the first 3 weeks of release. Yet the publishers can't seem to grasp such simple observations.
TC you apparently do not understand how Business 101 works. Boycotting them for this specific reason would have the exact opposite effect and benefit Microsoft (Sony maybe-ish) more so. That's what they would want, take away power from the middleman (Gamestop) so they (Microsoft, maybe Sony-ish) have more control over second hand content.

even though i hate the franchise but didnt black ops 1 make like 1 billion in sales when it was released?i think with sony not blocking used games we can now all breath a sigh of relief. as a xbox supporter i can tell you right now on that alone ps4 just gained alot of former xbox supporters ( including myself)

i still think ms was really idiotic to let the used game feature goÂ

I would have explained more in my original post, but I thought it was pretty much common opinion that gamestop screws developers over and ms is punishing all of us for that.
how could you even think gamestop is to blame for xbox's move?
gamestop's ingenious plan to make less money.

even though i hate the franchise but didnt black ops 1 make like 1 billion in sales when it was released?Call of Duty is the exception, not the rule. Yet several companies lately seem to think they can pull off selling 5 million units or more with every AAA budget release they put out. Even then, the only sure things Activision has is Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. I would wager It's the only reason they aren't slipping with the rest of the big name publishers.
[QUOTE="syztem"]it still amazes me how a publisher like ea is still around. no gamer trusts them and they were indeed voted worst company for 2 years in a row i also think they even are in some finacial trouble People like their games. That's really the only reason. People hate EA so much because of the contradiction between those two things. "I like their games but I hate their practices, so f*** them for putting me in this position." If their games were worse, then EA wouldn't be worthy of hate, just apathy. Instead of hating EA's practices, people would instead just be like, "who cares what they do, no one was gonna buy that $hit anyway."Boycotting products that provide the tools for DRM would get rid of it.
