They don't have to be fighting games.
Mine:
Gundam X Shadow of the colossus
Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki X Kingdom hearts/Disney

An extraordinarily long RPG crossover with Nintendo and Square-Enix characters.
Development time would take over a decade resulting in a 5 Blu-ray disc long adventure.
I imagine a Barret Wallace/Falco Lombardi confrontation would lead to hilarity.

Love the sound of this. And you're right. It will never happen.

As for me, I'd love an all-Nintendo adventure game. See how different characters, playing through different worlds (Mushroom Kingdom for Mario, the Lylat System for Fox, Hyrule for Link, etc.) and how their stories connect.
A Dragonage type RPG where you play as a videokid who has the power to drag characters from movies. He must gather a balanced party from his DVD collection to do battle vs the evil lord who now threatens his land. For a start he will need the wisdom and ranged power of a wizard, so he opens up his chest of DVD's to rumage at what he will find.
He must chose one wizard from the following!
Now he needs a brave Warrior, he rumages through his collection of action movies.
Next he's going to need a pious cleric, for spirital guidance and healing support!
Last, he needs the quick thinking wit and guile of a rogue.
The characters all interact with one another, and replayability comes from trying out a different selection on your next playthrough. Of course some characters will be more overpowered then others.
My number one has always been Sonic and Super Smash Brothers. I'm still a little shocked that it actually happened.

That'd be at least 200 hours for story mode alone. :P
My personal crossover would be Sony X Microsoft X Nintendo.
Nathan Hale vs. Marcus Fenix vs. that dude from The Conduit.
Samus Aran vs. Master Chief.
Sly vs. Donkey Kong vs. Banjo-Kazooie.
Sackboy vs. Mario vs. the kid from Limbo.
The possibilities are endless!
