Has this been posted yet? It seems that the modding community digged up what could be a new feature from the upcoming FPS. At least, according to CVG:

By digging through the source data of the multiplayer beta, the modding community has been able to unlock a massive list of on-screen text for both Halo 3's multiplayer and single-player campaign.

One fragment of text modders unearthed was this bombshell:

"The game cannot start because all players are set to observer. Too many players for splitscreen. Only 2 players may play splitscreen coop on the same Xbox 360 console. The party size is too large to start the game.
Up to 4 players may play coop on Xbox Live or System Link. Loading information from Xbox Live..."

Read about it here.

I really hope bungie puts that feature in halo 3. When asked about it they always say "We know gamers want this, that's all we're saying", so I quess they're trying their best to have it in the game. I'm forcing myself to not expect too much of it though. If they manage to include it in halo 3, and the campaign is as good as the one from halo CE, they're definately closing the series with a bang.

Four-player co-op seems really ambitious. I can't imagine the single player gameplay of say Halo 2 with four players being any fun. Walking down hallways, getting in each others line-of-fire. It would be messy.

They will have to alter the single-player levels for four-player co-op in Halo 3. More open enviroments, a different variety of weapons or something. Don't you agree?

I do agree. And by the feeling I'm getting from the beta, open environments and larger variety of weapons seems to be likely.

4-player campaign mode could be really fun, hopefully its true. Again though, lets just hope the campaign is really impressive. I want to see more of the random madness and epic battles from Halo 1's campaign.

I'd also like to see a return of the isolated feeling I had playing Halo 1, and that great atmosphere. Unfortunately, that would be a bit at odds with a 4-player design.

I don't see how that would work right. It seems to me that it would be too many people for SP levels. Everyone would be getting everyones line of fire, most vehicles only carry 2 or 3, many more enemies needed for challenge, etc. I'm not familliar with CVG so I don't know how reliable that is but I'm not sure how that would be properly implemented in a FPS

Maybe depending on how many players join up in a game, it automatically places more enemies in a level? Then again, that would probably be taxing on the hardware...

Or how about this: 4-player games have to be played on Legendary.

i agree that if bungie had tried to let you use 4 players in Halo 2 there would have been a ton of friendly fire but then again if they are going to put it in Halo 3 then they would obviously make the necessary changes. I think they should make some levels, like the big open outdoors one, be able to house 4 player co-op where everyone has enough space and doesnt have to shoot each other. Like they could have some levels have a max of 2 players. i dunno im just thinking out loud though. But i think if Bungie could pull it off, playing with 3 of your friends over live with headsets on legendary? up against a team of like 15 brutes? that would be epic, and i think that it would emerse you in the universe so well, youd feel like you were the blue team form the Halo novels, using elite tactics to complete impossible tasks. Now that ive started talking about, irealized how sick that would be

PLEASE BUNGIE PUT IN 4 PLAYER CO OP!

Not only do I hope for a 4 player story mode, but I also hope that the modders learned their lesson from Half-Life 2. Remember when some dude leacked the source code over the internet and as a result the Valve guys delayed the game?

that would be great but how can it happen when so much of the script revolves around you being the one and only Master Chierf?

This sounds really great, not only because I can play it over XBL but it is 4 players!!! Ok I better calm myself down before they announce there won't be 4 player co-op. The only thing I'm still wishing for is for Bungie to add split-screen because I want to play with my friends.

Damn. That would be crazy cool. If this turns out to be true then they wouldn't necessarily have to put in a lot more enemies, they could scale up the damage needed to take them out or damage that they could dish out. Man the thought of playing through Legendary difficulty with three other players sounds totally freakin' awesome. :D

Actually I think part of the code was not leaked, but stolen so Valve had to re-code what was taken which is why it had to be delayed.

Anyhow, I hope this four player co-op rumor will become a reality, but I'm not holding my breath.  A lot of ideas, concepts and previously created code or dialouge for ideas that just didn't pan out end up buried within the finished product and end up not being utilized.  Look at the "Hot Coffee" content in San Andreas.

I really do hope this is true though.......but if the campaign is awesome I will be stoked, period.......co-op or no co-op.

That would be so freakin sweet.  I was pumped for 2 player co-op over live, but 4 player?  Amazing.

I'm sure they could scale up the number of enemies and add difficulty to the enemies depending on the number of players in the game.  Just like they do with the multiple difficulties now.

4 player legendary has me counting the days.  Hopefully this is one rumor that turns out to be true.

That would be truly amazing. However, I can't imagine the campaign being that hard with four battle-hardened Spartans going up against even a large mass of Covenant on Legendary. :?

Man, I wish Bungie would give us some details on Halo 3's single-player. :x

Remember the special ops squads in halo 2? What if you were facing two squads of them? How would you feel with your 3 friends?

I'd feel like we'd could thrash them to pieces! Rawr! :D

But yeah, I'm totally for four player co-op. Heck, I'd be thrilled with two player co-op. I'm just worried about the lack of difficulty.

They should make it so atleast 2 have to survive.  So if two die you lose or something like that.  THey pretty much have to do it now that this rumour is giong on, just to live up to the hype.
