With so many Fallout & Metal Gear topics, I thought it would be a nice change to have a fresh topic on a game that, at the moment I've been very negative about. Dark Souls 3_

While it looks beautiful and has a Demon's/ DS1 with Bloodborne engine feel. We as fans should be concerned with what's going on. So with that, here is some of my complaints.

  • Rumors have surfaced the final game will have 12 bosses (less than even BB 17 bosses) DS2 base-game had 22
  • Stress-test confirms backstabs are OP. . NOOOOOO!! Lol, might get fixed but it's looking bad guys
  • Based on stress-test Dual-wielding is like BB, counts as one weapon. Taking away dual-wielding customisation. Is this a plus to some players? I personally dislike it. Want my mixed element dual whips :/
  • Shortest development cycle of any Souls game (Project was rebuilt from the ground-up when Miyazaki Hidetaka san joined the project. How many assets went from the old build into the new is unknown, however this indicates less content and should be a big concern)
  • Heavily recycles Bloodborne assets, is this an indication on the short development time?

So overall my main issue is this is going to have the least amount of content in any Souls game, if fans got upset Bloodborne lacked armor and weapons, not to mention NG+ distinct features, what is this? The worst send-off in gaming history? Probably not. But I like overreacting.

*Feel free to agree, disagree, question, post own notes on the games current/ or eventual state. Though please keep on subject. I'm not trying to convince people to like FROM RPGs or belittle die-hard fans that take any negative personally. If you have any pros or cons on the game yourself please I'm more than happy to discuss with fellow undeads :)

Anything taken from an Alpha build is likely to be both unbalanced and incomplete, so I'm not worried about things like backstabs. Plus, I read an article somewhere that the Alpha was built to be as basic as possible on the art style and assets, because they just wanted to show off the new features. The rest of the game will be a beautiful and creepy as usual I'm sure. As for fewer bosses, who knows. Maybe they'll have multiple stages as usual. Maybe some will even transform mid battle like a few Bloodborne bosses did. Less isn't always worse, especially if you're making everything better in the process, and if the enemies in between remain as challenging as ever. Miyazaki has also stated he wanted more weapons options due to Bloodborne's deliberate limitations in weapon builds. I'm sure we will see dual wielding again. Never take a stress test as an indicator of overall quality.

@mastermetal777: All true none-the-less, fewer bosses (I'm sure many would agree) in a DS game, means less rewards, and less rewards means, less loot. & loot is a huge reason to proceed onto the next challenge.

I'm aware it's only a rumor; however 12 bosses means 12 souls for boss weapons. And if past entires is anything to go with, likely only 6 will result in unique armor-sets. We can't ignore it being too soon, it's out in four months! All we can do is hope the progress is doing just fine behind that stress-test.

It's weird because I was in the Bloodborne beta and what I saw convinced me on what I was getting, DS3 is giving me a very different feeling and that's troubling.

It's the last Souls game for at least sometime so, though I won't speak for everyone; I'm sure many want it to be huge.

Bloodborne was an excellent game to be sure. Though wasn't fond of its lack of replayability and content. Dark Souls 3 needs to avoid this trend.

I'm sure it'll be fantastic as always. Besides, Bloodborne was was a great side step. I found a lot lot of replay value in it though, since I never got everything in one playthrough, and the Chalice dungeons take a lot to unlock and get through.

I personally grew tired of the Chalice Dungeons very quickly and just used them for PvP. It was hollow (ha, hollow) and barely had an impact on the games replayability because it was so recycled.

Bloodborne is an excellent game. I just prefer knowing the character build is more in my hands and loot is a big part of that. BB lacked a certain itch I craved after Dark Souls 1 & 2. In the end everyone in PvP looked the same and used the same top 3 weapons (can't comment on DLC yet for variety but vanilla game lacked)

BB was barely an RPG as well, in fact I compare it more with the first Devil May Cry as it's more an action slasher. That's awesome for a new IP! But I don't want that anymore in DS than I want Resi to be Gears of War.

Anyway we can all agree Dark Souls 3 will (likely) be a very good game. But just like many, it's these little things that will take away from the experience.

Anything you like or dislike so far? Feel free to share, any thoughts on the impact (Skills) will have? That's a feature I'm exited/ like to experiment with :D

*shocked with the lack of people on this subject, hmm. . Perhaps I should've posted this on PlayStation Nation?

@mastermetal777: Well only here to discuss mechanics and content length not really something that should spoil the experience. Would it? I'm hoping they don't show new set-pieces or anything major till after launch. Though I'd like an official word if 12 isn't true or otherwise. And what weapon types return.

As those I consider quite important.

I never got to play Bloodborne (screw buying a ps4) So if it's similar I am not against it.

@RSM-HQ: As much as I agree with your worries....I'm definitely still getting the game.

One thing that Bloodborne has earned despite being inferior to Dark Souls in my opinion....is the way the atmosphere and areas were designed.

Bloodborne has a 10/10 for atmosphere and the oppressive feeling the game gives to the player...even more than Dark Souls....easily.

I want this execution carried over to Dark Souls III.... Bloodborne was beautiful....from it's areas to it's boss designs...It was a treat.

While I'm worried about too many Souls games being released I was glad to here that From Soft.. was thinking of stopping the Souls series after DSIII.

I can only respect these games....I enjoy playing them a lot..and if DS III is the last..I'll definitely get it and trust that the developers have created something worthy.

@acp_45: Very true and I will get Dark Souls 3 regardless.

FromSoftware makes a special kind of RPG that's very alluring even with my concerns xD

I think Dark Souls II had too many bosses for me. I don't remember exactly where, but I ended up going into another boss about maybe 10 minutes after I already killed one. I also don't have time for NG+s so at least for me, I'm not that concerned about DS3 being light on content.

Im not too worried about it. Fromsoft is the only developer I trust, and I trust they will deliver again. The only thing you can't count on is the framerate. It will run badly as per every fromsoft game.

@JustPlainLucas: When you state don't have time?

I don't mind jumping in and out a game all year long, because my time for gaming can also be limited, but I like knowing a game will last. At average (not counting small indie/mobile game) I will buy 5 games a year. And most I can finish on one day-off work. Games like Monster Hunter, Dragon's Dogma, and Dark Souls have lasting appeal mostly due to content size and still have quality gameplay that keeps you on your toes.

Depends on how many games you go through I guess, or what other things you have going on. If you're a family man? it's understandable; however I don't like less content needlessly, when it's (possibly) the final game in a franchise. I'm not asking for more Dark Souls 2. I'd just like a decent balance. & this isn't a debate of quantity> quality, it's the case of being a rushed sequel.

@Shmiity: Well they're not my favorite developer, but I have enough faith that it'll be a fun game. However if it's another Bloodborne content wise? I'll be done much sooner than later. Personally my only concern is it'll be a stripped down game. As stated.

Many people I chat with on GFAQ are convinced it'll have new weapon types like the much wanted Flail. But I doubt it'll even have the range of previous games. So far I'm convinced it'll be a very minimal sized game due to deadline.

I don't have the time because I have an enormous backlog to get through. I will never in my life finish all my games. It also takes an extremely special game for me to want to play through again, and it will usually be games that average 10 hours in length if I ever do. I acknowledge your concern, but I'm just saying for me, it isn't one.

@JustPlainLucas: That's respectable and I have nothing against that :)
