One of the games I missed out on last year was Darksiders II, kinda slipped through the cracks on me. Been playing it the last few days and getting towards the end of it now and I have to say this game is everything Zelda wants to be. Incredible prince of persia style platforming? Check. Fast, visceral combat with huge engaging boss battles? Check. Elaborate dungeons filled with some truly devious puzzles? Double Check! Its even got some nice rpg stuff in there like a skill tree and gear to find, including legendary weapons from difficult optional bosses. I just finishing fighting this Giant Ice King optional boss that could kill me in two hits flat, while I could barely whittle away his lifebar. While I could have wussied out I instead fought him for over an hour and dodge almost all of his attacks haha, so exhilarating. Similarly you get the same kind of rush from solving some of the puzzles in this game too. Overall a very nice mix of combat, platforming and puzzle solving. This sequel takes everything about Darksiders and Zelda, amps it up to ten and makes it better. This game has to be one of the most underrated games out there. As someone who has been very disappointed with the Zelda series this generation I feel this game picks up that ball and runs away with it. I highly encourage everyone to spend the $15 this game probably costs now and try it out.

Its also slightly different from the original Darksiders. Oh and that Section you mentioned ealier, "Lair of The Deposed King" ,would've been annoying for me because clearly it wasnt a fair fight, however in my playthrough I was too strong for him and beat him rather easily which was very anti-climatic. Most of Darksiders II isnt like that but when it does happen its very annoying. Its why I don't buy RPG's anymore especially open world ones. But other than that you are spot on, Its a good game. The puzzles were phenomenal (did I spell that right ?) !

The only thing that DSII shares with Zelda is the structure. (dungeons and whatnot.)

That being said, it was an awesome game, I loved the hell out of it even though most of the boss battles were kinda lame.

Darksiders II is a good game, but saying it is what Zelda wishes to be doesn't make sense.

Zelda games have followed the same structure (essentially) since the beginning, Zelda games are very comfortable being what they are.

I am with vader on this. I was really hyped to play Darksider 2 after the awesome Darksiders 1, but first it turned out to be a prequel and then gave us these really boring dungeons where you do nothing really. I have no idea what happened to the item and puzzle heavy dungeons from the first game. Now I only played two dungeons before getting bored and moving onto Far Cry 3, but the dungeons and the story just felt phoned in.

They shoud've just continued from the ending of the first game and given us a borderlands styIe 4 player coop.

I started playing this a few weeks ago until Rising preoccupied my time. Gotta say, I'm not really feeling it with the loot system right now, nor do the dungeons really have the unique feel the original provided. I with Vader on this. I do really the like the improved combat though. Death is nimble and pretty fun to control. I'm hoping the gameplay rides with me to the end, since I already know the game's story doesn't really go anywhere.

I'd probably have a better opinion of the game, but I'm actually stuck in a dungeon cause some giant dumbass npc that is supposed to help me clear the area got stuck in some geometry and the game saved so now I can't continue.

I enjoyed Darksiders 2, but the dungeon design was quite weak (only a handful of them were memorable), and everything felt fairly repetitive by the end of it. I don't think it should be compared to Zelda. It's a good action-adventure-RPG in its own right, but it's not quite at Nintendo's level.

You know, I'd love to see Nintendo counter Darksiders and make an M-rated Zelda. Nintendo could also enjoy a high dose of controversy like SE and CD did when they revamped Tomb Raider.

Despite the fact that it tapers off towards the end, Darksiders 2 was some of the most fun I had in 2012. Great game.

it's good but not that memorable.

i never liked too many puzzles, and the weapons couldve had more variety. and what was with the dull colors?

still good though.

Interesting that I am such an opposing opinion on this. Ahh well. I still say for the $15 or whatever this costs now that it's definitely worth your time and money. I particularly love the ability you get to split in two and felt the puzzle gameplay that provided was really awesome. I don't know what you guys are saying that there are no puzzles because I have been stuck quite a few times, They are there. Then again I suck at puzzle solving bad so there is that.

I played through the original Darksiders and got a bit annoyed with many sections that feel copied from other games. (ie - Zelda, Portal, etc)  I also couldn't stand all the backtracking.  I have DII on my PC and if they fixed some of that stuff I'm sure it will be worth it.  I really like the style and general direction of the series but those original complaints annoyed me quite a bit with the original.

Well, its over, The Publisher, Studio and IP are dead. And I was really hoping to see how co-op would've worked out in Darksiders III.

I would really like this as well, and it's something I've always wanted. The potential for the Zelda universe to be dark and disturbing is huge...

It's already dark and disturbing in Majora's Mask.

But I see what you're saying. It'd be neat if Ninty made it almost lke a Fantasy Horror game.

Just make another Majora's Mask-like entry then. Way more interesting to see them create a dark atmosphere while still avoiding the M-rating. Forces them to be clever.

Agreed, it is...the darkest Zelda game, and probably why this is my favorite Zelda game, but the series as a whole isn't.

I remember after I completed Majora's Mask for probably the 3rd time, and I was hoping so bad that this was the new direction for the Zelda franchise. Nope...

I agree with what c rake said. Rather than making an M rated Zelda, if they keep it mild, even to a T rating, it would force them to be clver like they were so often in Majora's Mask. There was so much sh!t in that game that was just really unsettling and disturbing, more than in a lot of M rated games, but it was rated E. To me that's one of the many reasons it's BGOAT.

I just finished it, really didn't like. Everything just felt kind of tedious. Thought most of the dungeons were uninteresting, combat was easy and if you got the right loot (which I did because I never died) broken, the story and world were ok but I never felt like I was accomplishing anything as the game went on.

It was ok or bland level design, ok combat that has been done before, an ok world, broken difficulty, and boring often stupid puzzles (oh no a gate how will I get through, why don't you just turn around and squeeze through, really hate puzzles in games like this where I can think of about four ways to get past an obstacle that I'm not allowed to do).

MM was more unsettling than a lot of bloody games. It did this with a very small blood effect.

Blood's fine. I just wouldn't want them to go all-in on an M-rating. Just wouldn't be Zelda, otherwise.

That would be great but Nintendo prefer the "bright", cartoony-style found in Skyward Sword and Wind Waker or atleast that's the impression I have...

A Majora remake for 3DS is probably not out of question tho.

I loved the first Darksiders, reminded me alot of Ocarina of Time, but the sequel was horrible. Boring, and felt like a chore to finish the game, which I gave up half point. The best zelda like game out there this gen is 3D Dot Game Heroes, no doubt about it.

Zelda being M-rated wouldn't really make the games better at all. generallt games get M-ratings for having blood, cursing, sexual themes, not just for being dark and unsettling.

I have nothing against blood, cursing, or sexual themes, but a game can still be damn good and even disturbing without such things (like Majora's Mask), and also such things would be completely out of place in a Zelda game.

I'm playing the game right now. Good solid combat, clever enough dungeons and a lot of loot. It even has Lord Commander Mormont from Game of Thrones voicing one of the NPCs. My only problem with it: the plot is so basic and uninteresting it barely registers. It's not as bad as the story in Darksiders 1, but still, it's incredibly trite. Good game though, no doubt about it, not bad for 15 bucks.

Yeah I finished the game and don't really know what happened in it. Sh!t story, good gameplay. The very last dungeon is my favorite by far, I wish the mechanic they introduced in it (don't want to spoil it) was in other places, very awesome stuff there.

Darksiders 2 was a great improvement over it's solid predecessor. Really liked the integrated RPG elements.

Never had a problem with him once I figured out what to do. All you do is ride around in circles on your horse, never had any camera issues that I recall. Sometimes in tight spaces inside dungeons the camera would give me problems though.

Ah all rght.

The only aspect with DSII that I was truly disappointed in was the boss battles. In the irst they were much more Zelda- Esque with repeated patterns and certain ways of defeating them. In 2 it was pretty much "dodge and attack when needed"... Just like regular combat. The majority of the bosses were just tougher versions of common enemies which rally disappointed me.

Also there's not many of them, at least in the first 10 hours. In several dungeons you open a box and you're done, no boss, just an anticlimax.

Yeah it really makes me wonder what exactly the developers were thinking... Half the time I thought I was fighting a mini boss
