Rather good trailer. Sadly there seems to be little detail on the game itself in it.

I have a PC Gamer from like 06 ( not joking ) that has this game and about 4 pages of info about it in there. Those 4 pages are together the entire wealth of information and progress this game has seen before during and since.
I expect it to come out approximately 3 days after never.

Recapping some of what was said in that mag :
- Anything and everything being used as a weapon.
- Combinations of improvised weapons are possible. IE, soaking a zombie with gas via a fuel canister and then igniting it from a distance via road flare.
- There are factions of survivors with applied reputations across the island. Things you do sway you standing with each faction. An example they give is helping one faction while it is being invaded and how doing that can lower your standing up to and including kill on sight with the other people.
- Scaled day/night time cycles that alter the island accordingly.
- Mostly free roam.
- Only showed first person perspective though others may exist.
- Advanced and highly integreated hit detection and physics. Wounded targets move and act appropriately. IE, if you beat a zombie in the head with a tire iron it will wonder around unable to see you. Limbs can be handicapped and detatched etc etc.
- Progressive world damage and effects. An example they give is setting something on fire. The fire will continue to burn possibly across the entire island as long as there are flamable sources for it to move with, ie patches of grass, leaves, underbrush etc etc.
That was pretty much it from what i recall. Will be interesting to see how much the game has changed/stayed that way in 5 years.
This game is back?! :o
I'll keep an eye on this. It's been forever since I heard anything about it.
Thank you for the link. :)
Sounds good to me. Kind of Fallout 3 meets Dead Rising meets Far Cry 2.Nooberman2k
If that's the case then this game is even MORE awesome now.
I remember the trailer that was released years ago, and I wanted the game then, this new trailer is mindblowing, I can't wait to play this.
I've been looking forward to this game for years. It's looking good so far, that trailer was excellent!
sounds awesome but ill hold my judgement till i see some gameplay footage
but it is good to hear that this game is coming out
I'm no bleeding heart, but games that need to use the death of children as shock value to get attention tend to be the games that struggle gameplay wise. Apart from the shameless shock value of the child, all I saw was a CGI movie featuring a man killing zombies with an axe. Been there, done that. They played it in reverse though, that's pretty new I guess. Gonna need to see something a bit more promising than that, & hopefully it isn't another small movie that relies on bad taste & shock value.
If it turns out to be some hack n slash zombie game with silly comic relief, or anything similar to Dead Rising, I'm going to walk away from this one.I'm no bleeding heart, but games that need to use the death of children as shock value to get attention tend to be the games that struggle gameplay wise. That trailer was garbage. There was zero gameplay footage.

You know few trailers this day has any gameplay footage.
Dead Space 2 and LBP2 are two recently released games who debut trailers showed off gameplay (LBP2) or at least in-game footage of enemies (Dead Space 2). Call me old fashioned, but showing a movie 'inspired by a game' instead of the game itself strikes me as pointless.

Mass Effect 3 anbd the new Elder Scrollare two that does not show game play.
The point of a trailer is to get people to know about the game and wanting to know more.
If the game is as good as the trailer, and not like dead rising / l4d but more of original resident evil style of zombie game, it will be excellent.wigan_gamer
Its a four player co-op online game (L4D) in which you fight zombies using whatever you find lying around (Dead Rising).

This saddens me... But still I hope the story is good and the single player is fine. It might not be as action orientated as L4D which tbh is just a non stop pew pew game (which is great) but I would prefer a deeper game with a good story.[QUOTE="CarnageHeart"][QUOTE="wigan_gamer"]If the game is as good as the trailer, and not like dead rising / l4d but more of original resident evil style of zombie game, it will be excellent.wigan_gamer

Sounds good. I would love to be involved in developing a game like this... so much freedom to create a great cast of characters with deep storys. I really hope its a 2011 release, seeing as diablo 3 isn't looking likely this year :( this may take its place for me.
After dead risings 2 dissapointment and the way they approached the game I am not holding my hopes too high for the experience I am looking for though.
Trailer was amazing.
That aside, 4 player co-op with RPG elements are the parts that interest me most.
This is without a doubt the best videogame trailer I have ever seen. The game could be totally crap but the trailer is absolutely superb. Good camerawork, good direction, good music and very original take on a trailer. Im impressed
I've said that CG trailers are useless and tell us nothing many times (including earlier in this thread) and amusingly, IGN's preview writer for Dead Island found that the game is *gasp* nothing like the trailer.

The game has a very different tone than the somber trailer. It's fast and arcade-like. The plaintive piano and strings of the trailer are replaced with video game heavy metal. You can be clawed, bitten, and mauled by zombies and then be in perfect health a moment later. Tools and equipment can be jammed together to create ridiculous weapons, like an electrified machete. Is an electrified machete cool? Of course it is! But the macabre giggles it coaxed out of me are quite different than the quiet unease I felt while watching the trailer.
When developer Techland played Dead Island for me today, they chose the stereotypical "video game black guy" character. As he ran around slicing up zombies and bashing in their heads, he would exclaim things like, "Daaaaaamn, that ***** was huge!" and "You a dead***** now!" Imagine hearing that sort of commentary over the trailer that depicted the tragic death of a young girl.
A game trailer that shows no gameplay might be entertaining, but it is useless as a metric for judging a game's quality. This should be an obvious statement, but think about how many game trailers we see these days that are bereft of gameplay footage. You can create an incredible trailer that draws attention to your game (DC Universe comes to mind), but that trailer could very well end up being more entertaining than the actual game (DC Universe comes to mind).
