Godawful gameplay, but probably one of the best stories I've seen in a video game. I'd rank it up there with something like MGS.

I totally agree with you. Horrible gameplay, awful graphics yet I couldn't stop playing it just because I wanted to find out what happened next.
In the top 3 best stories in gaming for me.
Have you play Last of US and Beyond 2 Souls, to compare it to?
I might buy the Steam version if it's under 15 bucks come this Winter's sales.
beat red seeds profile on PS3 when it released and then deadly premonition on 360 when I bought the console in 2010. big fan of twin peaks... so I definitely liked it
but as far as video game stories go... there are plenty better. i.e. Planescape: Torment, Grim Fandango, Mother 3..

I've played The Last of Us, but not Beyond: Two Souls. The Last of Us has better gameplay and graphics, and the story is more cinematic in comparison to Deadly Premonition. Deadly Premonition's story is more fleshed out in comparison though, with the amount of cut-scenes and side-quests in the game, the character development was much stronger as well. Deadly Premonition's story was also very transcendental, and it keeps you thinking past the point of the game's ending.
It's a terrible game hipsters like to praise.
I find the concept of gaming hipsters pretty funny. Is it a real thing? Do they play current gen consoles? Did gaming hipsters just evolve this/last gen due to the popularity of gaming as a whole?
I want further clarification! please respond.
The story is god awful in the sense that if you ever watched twin peaks you know that 90% of it is directly ripped off from that show. I saw the series so when I played it I was bored shitless because it was mimicking it at every turn. Right down to a special agent in a mountain town of quirky people who has a affinity for coffee, has visions of premonitions and so on that's come to a town based off of a murder of a young woman found by an older man. Even oddball characters like the old lady who ran the lodge is obviously the log lady from twin peaks.
If you like straight out plagiarism then I guess you would like it. Its become one of those games that people like to say they like because they think it makes them savvy and cool when in reality most of them probably never played it or finished it.
@Gargus: There are also people that criticize others for liking Deadly Premonition, even though they've never actually played it themselves. Broadly applying some stereotype, like calling anyone that likes the game a hipster because you assume those are the only type of people that would say they like the game, isn't exactly fair to those who genuinely do like the game.
