I've heard a lot about it but never got the chance to try it. Considering picking it up during the steam sale...

Describe what's so moments that make the game great? I saw like the A10 warthog and it looked just like a flight sim game.

First off, let me start by saying that Arma II is the first game I've ever bought that I had no intention of ever playing (gifts not included). I bought it last year to get into the DayZ mod, which has seen a helluva lot more play time by me. My main use of Arma since then has been more as a familiarization tool, first with sniper rifles and then with aircraft. There aren't too many games out there where you have to contend with bullet drop at the extreme distances that Arma/DayZ allow you to shoot at, so my first trip to Arma to was to its shooting range to get used to ranging and leading targets through my scope (I'd be hard pressed to find a more satisfying moment than popping a bandits skull in DayZ, while he's running from 950 yards. The second trip to Arma was precipitated by the first time I got to fly a helo in DayZ and crashed almost immediately. Being that I'm a huge flight sim fan I can safely say that a flight sim this is not. Yes, you have to deal with the physics of the craft, but flight sims tend have much better control and response. Once you get the hang of it, it's not too hard though. For me and my 'usually solo' online mentality when it comes to computers, Arma II just isn't really my game. I should like it, but something about it just doesn't feel right in the single player. I will definitely be checking out Arma III though. I suppose if I got into one of the clans and started doing the massive war sims that they do, it would more suit my tastes. However, since my biggest contributions to online communities are forum participation and bug/gameplay issue reporting if I'm part of a beta, I'll stick to the DayZ side of things. My DMR 'Justice' and I do just fine there by ourselves.

I dunno, I got it while it was on Steam Sale over christmas and tried to play the Solo Part. The Mouse is waaaaay too over-sensitive for my taste, but I would have been able to get used to it.

What then TOTALLY took me off was when my group encountered the first enemy soldier and the radio was ALL the time repeating the same snippets of speech, again and again and again and again every 5 seconds o_O

How could this game EVER got valued as "so authentic and realitsic" when crap that like totally destroys the complete atmosphere......?

It's basically 1 step above an indie studio game, so production values aren't really that high.

The major hook for me was the scenario creator, there's some good fun to be had in pitting hundreds of soldiers against three tanks or a few hundred jets against each other or, if you've got the right mods, a bunch of starship troopers against tons of bugs and whatnot. The engine also allows for some truly spectacular and unpredictable results, I've literally made Call of Duty-esque firefights by just randomly throwing a bunch of enemies and vehicles together and letting them do the rest. I never really went beyond the creator though, the campaign always felt like an unstructured mess to me and I never bothered trying out the online multi-player (although I heard playing this game online with a few friends is where it truly shines though)

That's a ridiculous claim to make.  ArmA II is enourmous in scope and authenticity, not to mention realism.  Yes, it has UI issues and the AI is almost downright broken in single player, but multiplayer and the mod community has always been where the ArmA series has shined the brightest.  To say its basically 1 step above indie is a bit absurd.  It's not even close to being indie in any way.

Alright dudes, I did try Arma the demo.

I don't see how this is fun at all.

Like, sandbox-ey stuff is great and all, but it's dependent on the game AI.

There seems to be lots of annoying features like running from place to place.

And the weapons just don't feel right. Like, they seem too light, and they don't give enough of a bang when you shoot them.

Arma II is definitely a skip. I might give teh standalone DayZ a look, since so many people say good things about it. Arma 3 too, maybe.

I'm enjoying ARMA 3 a lot more.
