did aiming down the sights better or worsen FPS games?

It makes it better. I know it is just a game, but if I was in real war, lining up a shot, I am pretty sure I would aim down the sights. In CoD 4 though, I stopped playing for a while, and when I started again, I noticed myself getting killed whenever I would go to aim down the sights. My friend came over, who plays it a lot, and he said that he had to ditch the sight aiming because it took too long to bring the gun up. But whenever I can, I bring up the sights.

I think It made it better. I love aiming down the sights. It just makes you feel, well, more involved/looks awesome!.(at least to me it does) Plus, if someone doesn't want to aim down the sights, they don't have to. The way I see it, it is a win/win situation. If you want to use it use it. If not then don't.

It makes them slower and easier. Much less movement involved, and less aiming required. I guess that it's mandatory in games that aim for realism, like Red Orchestra, and it's fine in single player games.

Aiming down the sights is zooming in, plus less recoil. Of course its better than just holding it. you dont see snipers shotting without aiming?

I don't like how when you zoom in in some games, all it does is make things a bit clearer on screen and bigger, but you don't use sights.

Aiming down sights is not only more realistic, but depending on the gun, a lot easier.

Really depends on the type of shooter we're talking about. In realistic shooters it works like a charm, imersses you more etc. good example of this would be the Call Of Duty series.

Though pick up a shooter like, lets say, Halo, and I could never imagine playing that with iron sights, just wouldn't suit the game world.

Yeah, I don't like when they do that either. A prime example (even though it is a fun game) would be Battlefield 1942.

I rented COD4 and It's something I didnt get used too. When playing online I forgot all about the sights. Guess Im just used to the old fashion way of playing FPS's. But it seems cool and all.

Depends on the game. In the singleplayer they are great, but in the multiplayer, I say they only slow you down and distract you from what's important.

It's a good feature and I use it quite a bit.

its alittle more realistic with the ads. afterall there is no crosshairs showing you your centerpoint in real life. you have to aim down sights . unless youre really lucky that is. on a side note there are first person shooters and third person shooters. lets see someone make a second person shooter. that would be both impressive and asinine
