I mostly play RPGs on the PC. Is there any difference between console and PC RPGs that would justify buying a console for it (whether it is better storytelling, combat or whatever)? Should I just stick to playing RPGs on the PC?

in terms of western developers....the PC and consoles mostly share the same games. they originated on the PC but in the world of multiplat its six one half dozen of the other. controls tend to be nicer and the usual benefits apply to the PC version...but in terms of content there the same. what the PC lacks is RPGs from japan. worth investing in a console for them? aaaah its really hard to say. personally i like both. if ure interested but are unsure..grab a PS2 and some Final fantasy games. FF10 would be your typical japanese RPG. if they dont get your interest then its probably not worth investigating any further.

Western RPG's tend to have bigger game worlds, focus on exploration and generally a lot more freedom. JRPG's usually have a bigger focus on story and characters, and are usually a lot more linear.

I've often wondered about that myself. I play mostly JRPGs on consoles and wonder if the PC ever has any Japanese style RPGs or are they all WRPGs?

I know FF7 was released on PC, and Anchronox is was designed by a western company but plays like a JRPG.

For WRPGs, better be on the PC due to easier controls and much better UI. Plus the popular RPGs usually have healthy mod communities that continue to add more quests, items and content for free. If you like JRPGs, then obviously console is the way to go since PC has very limited selection for those (not as popular on the PC).

it's hard to say whether you'd like them or not. I grew up on mostly JRPG's and now I can't stand them. If you really like the things WRPG's offer then you might not like the way JRPG's play. buying a console to play them might be a mistake. My only advice is find a friend that has a console and some JRPG's and watch him/her play them and decide that way. It would suck to buy a system and find out that they offer next to nothing for you

This for me. I would rather play with a controller on my TV than a keyboard at my moniter. (I know you can buy controllers and VGA cables, but the point remains.)
