It's pretty simple. A bunch of Half-Life fans have gotten together to send crowbars to Valve, including real crowbars, emails of crowbar pics, etc. in order to express their frustration with Valve's lack of communication after the cliffhanger of Episode 2.

Thoughts? Seems like pretty harmless fun to me, and possibly a good reminder to Valve. I believe the operation is being headed from here if anyone is interested:

This isn't the first Half Life Ep 3 protest I've seen, but it is the most creative. I've given up on it, Valve's experiment with episodic gaming was a total failure.

Well, at least they're being creative with their waste of time.

I swear, patience is a rarity these days. I'd rather Valve take their sweet time on an amazing sequel rather than go the CoD route and release some lackluster, rehash pile of crap out in 10-months. Take your time Valve, I trust you'll make an incredible game :)

I entered here expecting to see some violence with crowbars..

I guess we need to show our anger to Valve, if they don't give us anything at E3.

It has been, but remember it took 6-years between the first Half Life and the second, and we can all agree that Half Life 2 was well worth the wait. I think it has been about 3-years since Episode 2 came out and I wouldn't mind waiting longer if it meant getting a solid game. Don't get me wrong though, I wish it'd come out today, but we all know that wont happen :(

I think it has been about 3-years since Episode 2 came out and I wouldn't mind waiting longer if it meant getting a solid game. Don't get me wrong though, I wish it'd come out today, but we all know that wont happen :(

The problem is, Valve hasn't even publicly announced anything about the game so far, we don't even know if it is in development. No screenshots, not estimated release dates, no information, no nothing. It has been four years since Episode 2 released. I could be more understanding and patient if they atleast came out and said "Look, we intended Episode 3 to come out in 2008/2009 but we had so many ideas and concepts for Episode 3, that we decided to turn it into Half-Life 3 and are currently working on the successor to the Source Engine, which the game will showcase, we expect the game to be done in 2012 or 2013." At least then we would know what we are getting, a rough estimate of when, and why its taking so long. As it stands Valve could simply release a five hour campaign running an updated but horribly aging 2004 video game engine that took five or six years to develop. No I don't want them to release a Half-Life game every year, but that long of time for such a short experience when most if not all of the assest for the game are already created is unexcusable. Value said the point of the Episodic content was deliver smaller content but quicker to avoid the six year spand between sequels again. Considering we've spent 2/3 of the Half-Life to Half-Life 2 development time waiting for something that could potentially be 1/3 to 1/4 the length of Half-Life 2 and not have a new engine to boot clearly shows how much Valve failed at this concept.

As for the idea that Valve is building a new Engine and Half-Life 3 is coming out any time soon, I know that is not true because Counter-Strike: Global Offensive comes out this year and it still uses the Source engine. Why would valve out of the blue make a new Counter-Strike game with an old engine eight years after the previous Counter-Strike game released? If Valve knew they had a new better engine and Half-Life game coming out, why would they make a sequel eight years later using an old engine? Wouldn't Valve wait and make a proper sequel to Counter-Strike on the new engine and launch it along side or with the next Half-Life?

looks like one poor corporate doorman will have a nasty week sending all those crowbars to the junk heap, while Gabe Newell obliviously keeps watching Twi'leks dance above the Rancor pit in his office upstairs. Boska!

But then again, Duke Nukem Forever took its sweet time and look how THAT game turned out. Yeesh. Really goes to show that their episodic gaming plan didn't work out before Source started to get a bit dated for the HL series, but at least it turned out better then SiN (which only got one episode).

Anyways, I'd probably contribute except I don't feel like spending money on a crowbar unless its for me.

At this point, because of fan expectations if nothing else, Valve is probably better off not making Half-Life 3. It'll be the Star Wars prequels all over again. Or, at best, Doom 3. Too much time has passed, giving idle fans way too much free time to let their imaginations run wild and set their expectations well into the nigh unreachable stratosphere. There's simply no way Valve will be able to release something that will likely match the level of awesome people are expecting, and I can't blame them for not wanting to invest the time, energy and resources just to have it fall flat. Might be best to just leave it alone.

For myself, I really don't care about cutting edge graphics or Portal-style innovations. They could use the exact same graphics engine from Half-Life 2 and just complete the story and I'd be happy. Hell, even the original Half-Life still plays great, and even looks better than it rightfully should, given its age. I'd really just like to see them wrap things up.

Valve is scared. Simple as that. There's just too much pressure & unrealistic expectations on them.

Did anbody see that artcile IGN wrote many, months ago about what they see for HL3. They're expactations were ridiculous. I laughed at it. They expect HL3 to set the bar in all areas, including graphics.

It reminds me of Naughty Dog. ND had some real balls to release UC3 after all the praise UC2 got. Even after it released people were still dissapointed. I see the same future for HL3 except that valve doesnt have the same balls that ND has.

Hope to see anything from valve that has to do with HL3 but when we do they will meet my expecations, but others will not have their crazy expecations met.

I've been waiting for the next Half Life as patiently as possible but its hard seeing Portal take over the light ( which it seems it has, All the videos valve make now are about portal.) I Didn't even like portal, Personal opinion, It just wasn't my kind of game. I just want HL3. Screw that episodic crap, It just ended up Taking LONGER TO GET LESS CONTENT OUT. Like, Ep 1 and 2 could have been one game. instead of 2 short ass dissapointments (Don't get me wrong, they were fun to play. but way too short.

I'd rather let Valve work on Half Life 3 and polish it up as long as they need. The game is getting crazy expectations. If Valve gets rushed, the final product wont be as good AND many will be disappointed. I feel bad for Valve because they have crazy amounts of hype to deal with and all the fans take Valve for granted when Valve gave us so many great games, made TF2 free to play, made Steam, and never sold out on their fans. Take as long as you need Valve.

Its fine for them to take their time with making a game.

But why the hell has absolutely no info been released? Has it even been announced yet? Jesus christ, just releasea screenshot or a trailer or something. This goddamn silence does nothing other than make the fans angrier.

I think they are trying to make the expectations a bit more low, but all it is doing is making them higher.
