Look I can understand adding extra content to a game and charging a fair price for the work and resources put in to it.To do sois a step in the right direction for the gaming industry especially looking back at where we came from. But to withhold content with the sole intention of releasing it as DLC after the game is released is something that needs to be stopped. We can even look at games like the Madden series that are actually charging you money to use a cheat code. A CHEAT CODE?! What ever happend to hit "x, x, b, x" and you unlock cheat? Now we have to pay an upwards of $5-10 just to enable what is basically the same thing? Map packs that shouldve either been released with the game or patched into it for no charge cost $15 a pop?

Like I said I can understand paying a company for it's time and extra resourches creating new content for an aging game. But this greed that megacorporations like EA and Activision are using are only driving the gaming industry down. Games already cost $60+ tax and will probably go up to $70 in the near future. Add on the $5 here and there and you're getting really close to $100 a game. This really wouldnt be so bad if the games were actually getting better with the price tag, but were seeing more and more companies releasing 8 hour games and blaming it on "casual players".

The arguement is "if you dont like it dont buy it", but I counter that with give me a full product to purchase without stripping it down to release parts of the full game at a later date to make more money. Cheat codes costing $5? Come on man why do gamers take this crap?

I agree if a developer withholds content that should be in a game and charges us for it is BS, but there are some things there I disagree with: -Not all map packs are $15, only the idiots who bought the MW2 map packs paid that, and Activision are actually greedier than microsoft, so that tells you everything. -As with the Madden Cheats, the developers will realize their mistake when it gets no Downloads. But things like that which you dont need are there, so why whine about them? You arent buying them, so let the idiots who do buy them learn from their mistakes. -Few games these days actually strip down their games, and those who do usually release the DLC free, because they cant fit it in the game. Just my opinion though.

The worse game that had DLC is Crackdown 1. While playing it, you come to gray out markers and then the voice tell you to use it you need DLC to play it. IT is not hint but just telling you to get the DLC durning the game.

youre right, whats happening with Activiosn is out of control.. first they spiked the price 10$ higher, then theyre making the gamers pay 15$ for every set of maps they realiese... and the bad thing is that i see more games that starts to place the 60$ price on games.. thats one of the reasons i LOVE Valve, they actually care about players, and give them the best, without paying extra 10$ for new maps, or random updates... or even DLCs. but exept for Activiosn, i actually like DLCs, theyre fun[exept the ones, like you said, that are belong in the Original game]. as long as its additionl quests or missions, i have no problem with them, cus they keep the game fresh, and gove you more playing hours with the game you liked.

Who is anyone to say what's too far? If companies want to make money, then the will. That's how capitalism works.

They could be worse they could split a game into three parts and charge about full price for them and spend years to come out with the next one with not real improvements. Sorry I was thinking of Valve.

I don't mind too much if they withhold a little and charge for DLC later on. Maybe it's content they couldn't fine-tune in time. Maybe it's content they weren't allowed to include for some reason due to time limit constraints. Maybe it can't fit on the disc. Dozens of reasons. Another reason, mostly personal, is i buy games used for cheap or super cheap. So paying for DLC isn't a big cost to me, as it's usually still cheaper than buying the game itself brand new.

I actually wrote an article on this very subject recently and will link it when I find it.

DLC is good for the video game industry, but its also so bad for it. I'm all for add-on packs for games coming out a few months after the games release, or even a few new quests or content for the game down the line, but I completely draw the line when a game is released on a Friday and DLC for that game comes out on the Tuesday following.

A main example of this is the new Tiger Woods game. The very first Marketplace update on Xbox Live since Tiger Woods came out, EA decided to release a bunch of course packs for players to buy. How they can justify not adding these courses on to the game is beyond me. They obviously had the content but were holding back to make the extra money.

There is simply no excuse for coming out with brand new content like maps and things on a game that was only released three or four days prior to said consoles marketplace/store update. It's a slap to the face of people who actually go out and spend their hard earned money on games when they get released.

As long as millions of people buy overprice DLC, why should developers stop making it?

I am generally opposed to DLCS, however I will admit after I finished Mass Effect I was happy there was a DLC...sometimes when you love the world so much its nice to have a little additonal content outside the main game to just enjoy. Then again I hate all the overpriced map packs...and yeah paying for cheat codes is total B.S.

Overall I'm with you. I really don't like DLCs. I mean look we payed $60 for MW2...then $30 for the 2 map packs...(which are really necessary if your a big COD player) and I fully expect to see at least one more before the year is up...so thats $105 on one game thats my main problem.

The only time I generally find DLCS acceptable is with RPGs...you pay $60 for a quality 50 hr RPG...so paying another $15-20 for another 10-20 hrs of gameplay is fair imo especially when this kind of content is generally not kept out of the game, but made after the games release if its successful...to give the player more to enjoy.

Yeah but it sucks to see other people getting cheated by this crap.
