I recently had an accident where something heavy rested upon Grandia and Deep Fear for Saturn in their Japanese jewel cases. And they both have deep cracks in the cases now, one on the front and the other on the back. It really bothers me because they're two of my favorite games for the system. But I'm not sure I want to go out and buy new ones just for the cases. It makes me sad when I see them though. :( It wouldn't be so bad to replace them, but shipping prices are just so expensive.

... Do these things bother you? Do you want to preserve great games?

Yeah, those kinda things do kinda bug me but I get over it. If I do, however, pay 100+ for it like I did Dragon Warrior III with the box and all, I would get more than a little upset if the box was torn or crushed or something.

I didn't pay much for them, but I got these games in amazing condition for a low price and it was quite a victory for me. :( ... And now I've been defeated. I might replace Grandia just because it's one of my favorite JRPGs of all time now.

And wow, I've never paid that much for a game although I might hit a new record when I buy Princess Crown. @_@;

There's a super rare game on the NES, think it's called Nintendo World Cup, but it's the rarest NES game around and it can go for over 20k. Sorry but I'm not crazy enough to pay -that- much xD I have Grandia II, still have yet to play the first one.

I prefer to have a nice case for my games but don't care for slit wear or scratches. I do hate how most SNES games I see are missing the cardboard box. I have kept mine for all my games that came with one but my friends would get them damaged or lost. Also recently I was annoyed that the Street fighter 4 limited edition didn't provide a cover for the blu-ray like Blazblue did with it's collectors edition. I think it may have elsewhere around the world but it would be very hard to find a case.

They were just talking about this title on The HotSpot podcast... odd timing!

:)

The consensus was that it was a great soccer game, on a par with "Montana Football" for the Genesisand other great vintage sports titles like "NHL 94".

Yes, any game that I own, has to be the original case or it'll bug me for some odd reason.

As for the two cracked cases, just buy two cheapo Japanese Saturn games that no one wants.(most likely sports titles). That's what I do for any damage case I have. A little hard for cartridges though because they come with cardboard... so basically have to rebuy the game then.

I think you might mean Nintendo World Championships - there were gold and silver cartridges given out at the event that took place in 1990 - they weren't sold in stores, making them rare - and a limited number produced makes them even more rare. That said you can get a reproduction of the cartridge for $55.00 at http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?cPath=23&osCsid=254b7cb94124bcb5bc64da49ba5fbc96

Here's Nintendo World Cup for less than $3.00 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/WORLD-CUP-SOCCER-Fun-NES-Nintendo-Game_W0QQitemZ390076644767QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Games?hash=item5ad2613d9f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Anyway, sometimes a messed up case/game book can bother me. If I buy something new, I want it to be really close to that condition - and I try to keep it in the same condition as long as I own it.

for CD games, yes the cases/boxes do matter, and the old cases from the 90s were the worst, they fall to bits so easily, I have a lot of old PS1 andPCcases which are cracked, and I take care of my games, so when I buy a game, I always check that the box is in at least a decent condition

the DVD style cases are much more durable.

Personally, I have to cases that are in good shape. They don't have to be immaculate if I'm buying pre-owned, but they must be decent. I also have to have the manual. Just a touch of OCD in me.

They're actually extremely cheap and Grandia's case can't be replaced because the opaque parts are white, not black. Which is unusual.

I have performed case surgery on Biohazard 2, however.

If they would have built them with better plastic this wouldn't happen. I have a copy of WachenRoder for Saturn and it uses really nice, thick clear plastic for the case. Why can't other games do this? Oh well. I think jewel cases look better but they break ...

well, yes they do...but they're are exceptions. I had to take my N64 games out of there cases. The cases were taking up too much room and I couldn't put my games in a suitable spot.

Cases don't matter to me. Most of the games I buy are from digital download, I have a small stack of cases in my closet, but now that I think of it I should throw them away since I keep the disks in a disk wallet anyway.

I recently bought a PS2 and got a bunch of games at Gamestop's buy 2 get 1 free sale. None but a couple have their cases and or manuals. I don't read or look at those things anyway.

I prefer my cases to be in good condition but it often isn't the deciding factor on if I will buy a game or not. Jewel cases are easily cracked so I don't mind the damage so much. PS2 cases are hard to damage so there are not so many problems there. Scuff marks tend to not worry me but damaged cases worry me a bit more with PS2 games. I get more frustrated when the games are missing the manual, even though I almost never look at them.

I never really got into collecting boxes until last gen we all know discs scratch way more easily then just leaving em around like I did wit my carts, I kinda wish they used a hard case for SNES and N64 games like the genesis did b/c I didnt kno that saving the boxes increases the value plus I was little just thewem away

Well, for cartridge games, I don't really care because they're not exactly fragile to begin with, but if it's a disc cases mean a LOT to me, I tend to lose loose CDs. XD

Well, that seems to happen a lot. I really don't like when I have to print the box art for the games I buy without covers, I say just get new jewel cases and keep the old ones as collector's items in case you ever wanted to put them in their original cases. Just put the original cases in a drawer or something and save them for later.

However, I lost all my GBA game cases (except for A Link to the Past/Four Swords) since my parents threw them away because they thought they were useless cardboard. XD

Yes game cases matter to me. If your game case gets bent, its most likely your game will crack, and I would not stand for a bent or smashed in case. :D

unless it's a cartridge then you can easily take the backing and the cover off the original and put it into another jewel case. It'll look like the original.

I feel the same way. I recently bought Final Fantasy VII from the game store I work at. The case had a massive crack down the middle of the case, so before purchasing it I swapped the cases to ensure a more pristine version of the game.

If you pop into your local games shop they probably have loads of cases laying around -like we do- and would probably give you a replacement for free, if they are feeling generous.

YES. Which is why I hate some of the stuff Gamespot pulls; I always get their used games with a decent case; only for them to RUIN them with tons of those stupid stickers! All my Fatal Frame games are tarnished with the bloody things and they don't come off...
