yes they do. FPS always 360, fighting always PS3 (though I don't have a PS3 yet).

Yes. The Dualshock is my favorite controller by far.

No, I think both controllers are good enough, it should not factor into what platform I buy a game on. I mean both these controller styles have been around a very long time really. 3 generations for Sony and 2 for MS. My buying choices focus on content, exclusive games/content for a said version. How smoothly it runs compared to the other version. And sadly with PS3 if it has installation, I only have a 20 gig and I have to keep juggling installs which upsets me. I can't replace the harddrive for reasons I won't go into. My 360 has functioned fine with a 20 gig because it has no freaking 5 gig installs grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. So if its a toss up between PS 3 and 360 I go 360. I also find the 360 version always seem to run better from what I have seen. Add in achievments and that about raps it, I'm sorry but PS3 trophy setup blows.

yes infact, it is the single deciding factor in why i choose my consoles.

shooters- PC, then 360 FAR behind

Action- you need a controller, PS3 is the best for this IMO

RPGS- depends on the game, i like controllers for some games and PC for others

In a certain way it does. I'm not that good in FPS games on consoles, so if there's a game I have plans on going pro in, I'm buying it for the PC.

But for chillout playing, my favourite platform is xbox 360.
When I think it over, this might be because of the controller. It got a whole other feel to it.

I have found the 360 controller to be the most comfortable for me. Controller really only come into point when refering to a multi-plat game that includes the Wii, if the motion controlls are good, I may choose it. But I would choose the 360 controller over the PS controller (at least the PS2 dualshock & presumably the PS3 controllesr). I did like the gamecube controller, but thinkg the 360 is better, just needs an imporved d-pad.

Sometimes they do, depending on the genre. For example, I decided to stick with the Wii version of RE4 due to its superior handling of the aiming controls. But when it comes to fighters, the Xbox setup is my personal preference.

The only genre that I prefer the 360 controller over the PS3 controller is FPS- the Sixaxis is terrible for that. There are a few genres that I find to be a wash, but for the rest, I'd take the PS3 controller. I personally find that all the buttons on the PS3's design are useful and practical. The bumpers for the 360 controller are not accessible really and feel cheap.

i think it sort of does matter what controller you get because you may be use to one controller and not to the other. if you just get one you aren't use to at all, then you are going to have alot of trouble in a game.

Controllers certainly influence which console I buy multiplatform games for. Anything that needs a d-pad should be played on the Dualshock 3 (d-pad actually usable), FPS on 360. Anything that's available for Wii on either of the other systems, so I don't have to deal with crammed-in waggle.

Last-gen I went to great lengths not to have to use the GC controller (or the Fisher-Price My First Controller, as I call it), with it's useless d-pad, atrocious button layout, and uncomfortable grips.

Yes. I would never play a fighting game on the 360 if I could avoid it.

To a point.

Anything that uses the triggers extensively and needs solid stick work (driving, FPS, action, platforming, etc) I'd rather play on the 360 controller, since the Dual Shock 3's triggers are godawful and the sticks are too short.

It's got a better d-pad, though. I just wish it was in a better controller.

I've bought several first-person shooters for the GameCube. I think that's a sign that it doesn't influence my decision. ;)

It's sad to say, but controllers had a lot to do with which console I eventually went with, the 360. I never felt comfortable with a PS1/2/3 controller, so why would I buy a console that I wouldn't be comfortable playing for hours with?

What really strikes me as odd is that no 3rd party controller maker has made a PS3-style controler for the 360, and vice-versa. They basically have the same number of buttons, no? Just need to swtich the analog stick with the D pad, and change some of the general curves...

yeah. some games were multi platform on PS2 and GC. i chose GC most times. although, admitidly loading times and better graphics were also part of that decision.

GC controllers are much nicer for long adventure games. they're able to be 'sunk' into.
