I always hear people saying how much they hate certain games. Like a guy said "I hate FRS games" but I've often seen him playing them. I think people just say these things to seperate themselves from mainstream. A lot of people say they hate, Hypothetically Killzone 2, but a lot of guys just say. its too dark and the characters and story suck. With which I totally agree. But they always say the graphics suck then. But is obvious Killzone is gorgeous. I know this thread is gonna turn into a killzone bashing party but its just hypothetical. But like everyone says I guess "haters gonna hate"

Don't forget the unresponsive controls, the mindless repetition and the absurd one-weapon-at-a-time limitation. Sigh, why Killzone 2, why... :(

I hate games with no gameplay and constant barrages of horribly written, never ending cutscenes... what's wrong with not liking something for a good reason?

Some people do. Some people hate certain games because of opinion. Try telling a Halo fan you hate the series as I do. You'll get eaten alive :)

Personally, I don't understand how you can hate a game. I mean, I loved Halo CE, but I didn't like Halo 2. I don't hate it. I didn't like it so I didn't play it. But I don't know how I could hate it.

I tend not to like popular or mainstream things, not just to be cool or different, I just dont like those. but when it comes to video games, I think the mainstream popular games are quite good.

The only people that actually go out of their way to get heard usually harbor immense hate for a game or extraordinary jubilation. Most people don't hate games or truly love them, but just don't care enough to say anything at all, making the only voices heard those of the crazies. But for real Killzone sucked.

Eventhough i have my own fave genres im open to every game and don't bash it til ive played it, i was disappointed with KZ2 because i thought it was going to rival Halo. Things i disliked about it were:

- Even on normal i found it very challenging and would die constantly throughout it.

- I disliked the story because the Helghast are so mysterious and aren't fleshed out, im interested in them but know little same with the ISA i wish there was a bit more of a detailed story and backstories.

- I didn't like the characters I could not stand Rico he was so annoying and predictable, While Sev and Garza were alright, id like more story on them.

I thought the graphics were good, decent range of weapons and the game had potential hopefully KZ3 brings it out.

Well I like FPS's. But my favourite type are the realistic ones like Ghost Recon. One's where you actually have to use your head. But that's not what the majority of gamers want. Games like Halo sell much more and there are more games like them which is sad as they're crowding the industry. We have way too many sub-standard FPS games because of Halo. It sells incredibly well and then every other developer thinks that is all Xbox 360 gamers want to play; as some space marine with no personality and the power of a small army. Well I certainly don't.

Yeah some people hate things just because a majority like them. Their opinions tend to lack substance though so you can pretty much ignore them lol.

Probably because if you hate something popular you'll get attention, which is what some 'hater's' want.

Least for me when I say I don't like something I say it because I don't, not because I think its the cool thing to do. The only thing that comes to mind on this issue is I am not a fan of FPS games. I have had many friends who enjoy games such as Halo. I have watched them play it, do multiplayer with it, etc etc. They had the best time. I just sat on the couch and watched as I refused to play as I can't stand those types of games. In actuality would have made it alot easier for me if I just pretended I liked them as I would not have been left out :P

I don't see why some people labor under the delusion that any game is or should be universally loved. Most games sell to a relatively small percentage of the userbase because on most consoles, the tastes of the fanbases are wideranging.

So, you're saying that you "hate" the game because it sold so well? It's not the fault of the companies. Consumers vote with their dollars, and the votes have told the companies that the consumers like that style of game.

No, they criticize because they aren't comfortable conforming to the majority opinion and just "going with it." They feel the need to express their tastes outwardly, and criticize things they dislike.

Sounds more like he hates the "dumbing down" of video games. It doesn't really take much skill to do well at COD. It's just being at the right place at the right time... Ghost Recon was tough in that you couldn't hop around and try to get a kill because you'd just get shredded to bits and teamwork is actually an element in the game.

I don't dislike Halo because that's "cool". I dislike it because it takes no skill. You complete a level and there's no satisfaction as it feels like I've barely worked for it. It's just level after level. I much prefer realistic shooters. They're harder and tend to be more frustrating but when you complete a level/mission it's much more enjoyable and satisfying. As I said, Halo games sell so well because more people would rather play the run & gun style shooter, there's a bigger audience for them. Plus it's got the Halo name stamped on it. Just like with the CoD series, you could carve the name into a turd and people would still buy it.

There's a difference between being critical of a game, which is fine, and just hating on it, which contributes nothing to the discussion.

Honestly, I can see your reasoning. You have a solid reason for disliking the game, and that's great. You can actually provide a solid argument. However, I don't see how this translates to hating the game. That is to what my confusion is linked; there are a great many games for which I do not care and many others I dislike. Saying you hate a game is different than dislike for the playstyle. As for blaming the game for the consumers, I think your mislaying the blame.
