I don't mean to ask a silly and probably stupid question. It's just I can't help but notice some people hate backlog of video games they wanna play all of them just so that they don't have any unplayed games left anymore. There are probably other reason why they hate having a backlog of games, but still. I believe some people tend to play a video game just once and ever play it again, also I think some people play a game just for a little bit and then all of a sudden they stop playing the game and never play it ever again without even finishing it. Not to mention I think people tend to rage quite when a game gets to frustrating and really difficult. Is it me or is it kind of getting to the point where people just aren't playing video games for fun anymore? Maybe I'm just being silly.

While I understand what your saying it is their perogative to game how they choose. Perhaps it is fun for them to simply play a game once, play a game partially, play through their games quickly so they don't have a backlog, etc. Trying to conceptualize "fun" into a one size fits all paradigm is an exercise in futility.

I get what you're saying. I start to realize I enjoy more collecting games then playing them (although I ALWAYS beat my games). Thats why when gaming turns DD only I'll probably stop caring about gaming... I believe I just reach a point where I've seen everything gaming could offer so I dont get impressed anymore. Not saying some game wont impress me again in the future but I doubt it... I start to grow up and realizing there are more important things in life other then gaming, that was basically my life from quite some time now. People just grow up tired of it. Thats what I feel anyway

Yes, definitely. Even people who have huge backlogs succumb to the hype for some much anticipated games. I think it's a minority of people that have a large number of games in their backlog and see it as a bad thing. When I see people complain, it mostly seems like they are joking.

I only play for the fun of it. I treat it as my hobby as I should. I have a modest backlog compared to many here, but I see it as a great thing. When I see 20+ games that I have yet to play, I get excited because each and every one of those games I am eager to play. I just have a system that really limits me playing many games in a short time.

Well, that can be the case. I still play random old games though. Sometimes I'll see a game on the shelf and decide to play it for a few hours.

I do. Sure I have a huge back log that I want to get through, but I'm happy to remove a game from it before it's finished if I'm just having no fun with it.

Sadly it's not, if that was the case, games like Mass Effect 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 would not exist.

I do, but I think that me and a few other people are the only ones that do. The problem is that all 'gamers' want to see in a game these days is a great story, that's why games like Mass Effect 2 and Movie Gear Solid 4 Hours win game of the year and fun games like Saints Row 2, Saints Row The Third and Just Cause 2 sadly don't even get nominated.

I wouldn't agree all gamers want a great story - it's a positive feature of course, but not necessary for a great game. Take Skyrim for example. I'd say the main story sucks in it, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's a great gameplay. The open-world exploration and the game's epic scale really make that a great game for me. Having fun combat doesn't hurt either (although admittedly it does leave a bit to be desired).

Personally I think the heavily story driven, linear experiences are some of the least enjoyable games as there is the least amount of player control. Just my two cents on the subject.

Yes. I think majority of the population today find great time spending on the video games. I, myself, can't help but spend even 2-3 hours a day playing WoW. lol

Same. If a game stinks I don't bother. Even some "good" games don't bide well with me. DE:Human Revolution failed to suck me in. When you get older you're just more pressed for time. However, when I was younger I used to go to Blockbuster and rent a few games with friends. At that point we'd attempt to finish every game we rented.

Well, I think the majority of people play games for fun, but there are also those who hunt for achievements and trophies that play just for that, I like getting platinums, but only in games I love, it adds to the game imo. But there are people who complain and say it's a chore, a pain in the ass, but continue to get them, if the game is heh or if it's not enjoyable I don't understand the mentality.

I never have a backlog of games, and never play multiplayer to avoid the inevitable frustration that it causes. I play single player and am always having fun.

I don't think anyone here really plays games to not have fun, that's the whole point of playing them. However, myself included, I've seen people rush certain games to clear out their backlog.

To be honest, I probably only think I'm having fun with video games sometimes. I lost my real passion for gaming years ago. But you know... old habits and all that.

I don't udnerstand why anyone would hate having a backlog of video games. I like having one because I always have something to fall back on just in case I don't have the disposable income to buy any more video games. Maybe if you're OCD, and must have every game you have completed it can be a problem, but I know for sure I don't hate having a backlog of games.

I have 350+ games that I know I'll never complete all them. I'm just too busy. I still buy video games because I'm sort of a collector now. Sometimes I will set time aside and focus on getting games completed which some might call taking it too seriously. I look at it this way, If you really enjoy doing something and have a passion for it I don't see any problems with taking it seriously.

I don't play them for the hell out of it. Sometimes I might "trudge" through a game to finish the quest, but I'm still having fun doing it, just not as much as when I first started the game. They are too expensive to buy unless fun is involved.

I think the "hate" you're referring to emanates from having too many awesome games to play and not enough hours in the day to play them. Most people have other responsibilities that prevent them from sitting on their ass all day playing games. People have jobs to work, school to attend, social lives to engage in, etc. When you get older time becomes a premium, whereas when you're young it feels like you have all the time in the world.

Playing one game for 1000 hours, or playing 100 games for 10 hours are both "fun" activities. Not every game is worth investing a lot of time in. Many are like movies (not in the cinematic sense)... you see them once, remember them as enjoyable experiences, and then never watch them again.

I have quite a large backlog, and sometimes I feel like trying to rush through my games, but that usually doesn't happen. I tend to stick to one game for a little while, move on, and repeat. There are some games I go back to, but with so many games I'm generally moving on to ones I have yet to play. The main reason I play video games is for entertainment of course, so I'd still say I'm having fun. There are many games I have just played through once, though there are also many others I've done multiple playthroughs with or continued to play after finishing it. Anyway, I usually don't feel like I'm forcing myself to play a certain game. I get to whichever game I want to anytime I want to, and overall I'm having fun.

I see what you're saying but I just have so many games that I don't really delve into them like I used to. Most all modern games are pretty fantastic tbh and when I see a ps2 or xbox game that's not a complete pile of garbage for 2 or 3 bucks sitting there I just have to pick it up.

This is a very good question indeed:idea: The things is that it seems that all of us gamers play games for fun though it isn't fully true. It has been times I played games out of pure boredom or to kill time. Some certain games where just so talked about that I thought I had to try them too but weren't really my cup of tea. I try not to buy games which I would never play, but still ended up with a good number of games which I have bought but rarely played. There are even some I haven't even installed them.
