Personnally I do, but only in games where it's not massively story focused or if im playing through a campaign for the first time, for example; I usually play music during Borderlands or when playing online on Homefront.

i couldnt.. most games depend on sound whether its the campaign with the voice work and music or whether its the mp and you need to hear whats going on (in a fps or tps type game) sports/fighters are no problem but i still wouldnt cause i prefer game music

What he said. Feels a bit disrespectful to the composer if I don't. And for the most part, I enjoy it.

Depends on the game. If I'm playing an FPS online I'll have my own music playing in the background. If I'm playing a SP game, I'll listen to whatever the game supplies me with.

Rarely, because change in the game music is often a cue that something is about to happen.

If I'm playing a fps online like Cod I'll have some music playing to get me hyped up haha. but not if I'm playing the campaign. So mostly what the others said :)

I usually listen to music when there is no special need to hear the sound. Never in games where you need to listen for foot steps/engines, gun shots, explosions etc. though.

Nope. That's the first thing I turn off. I can't get immersed if there's music playing.

Depends on the game. I'll normally listen to my own music while grinding for EXP in World of Warcraft, or mining in Minecraft. But I'll listen to the game music when playing through the story in games like Persona 3 or Tales of Vesperia because those games have a much bigger emphasis on story, I don't want my own music to play over the dialogue. (And the music in those games are pretty good anyway.)

Depends on what I'm doing. Usually if I'm going for a platinum that requires me to do something over and over(like Resonance of Fate's arena) I'll turn the volume down and have something else playing in the background to keep me entertained.:P

Depends really...if I am playing a FPS online sometimes I listen to music or something like that, but in SP games I usually just listen to the in game music. So genrally I would say no.

If I'm playing something like a sports game or racing game, I might listen to music or sports talk radio. But for the most part, not really.

depends on the game, if it's online mp then usually I do, or if it's an rts I'll probably have it in the bg. Other than that I tend to have my other TV on either the history channel or reruns of 90s sitcoms. If it's a sp game then usually it's just the game through my stereo, or if I want to go all out I take it to my TV hooked up to a pair of B&W 802Ds and that truely makes a game's sound come alive. I can't wait to play BF3 with them.

The only time I play my own music is when I'm playing a sim racing game like Forza or Gran Turismo, all the other times I prefer the in-game music.

Generally, I listen to what the game has to offer and that's pretty much all the time. But sometimes, if the soundtrack is pretty bad, I listen to music that I have stored on my computer and mute the TV.

Usually I throw my headphones on and listen to my own music..but if the game has a fun soundtrack or an amazing one (like some RPGs do) I tend to just listen to the game sound.

A friend and I listen to metal while we play halo or cod. But other than that I can't pay attention to music while I play games. I don't know how so many people can listen to music while they do other things. If I listen to music I'm going to be very into it.

If it's for Multiplayer gaming, I'll turn on some Green Day or whatever. If it's for Single Player, I'll play it however the Developer did to the game (unless the game music sucks).

It all just depends, though.

I don't. I like to focus on the game and would become distracted during cut scenes or dialogue.

Only during MMORPG's while training since it can get very boring. I tried playing music during Team Fortress 2 but it was just too distracting and it was hard to focus.

Only if I cant stand the ingame music.

FO3/NV for instance, both full of big band/country music which I hate almost as much as I hate pop punk or rap. So I just stick some Thrash on.

I might listen when I'm playing online too, which always seems to be lacking in music.
