Do you go to Pawn Shops or Good Wills/Thrift Stores to hunt for Legacy Games?

This was inspired by the below five dollars thread, but I am curious do you go into Pawn Shops or Thrift Stores like the Good Will or the Ark to find games? What deals have you found on older consoles or controllers? Or even games, it may be more then five bucks, but still a good deal? Or do you have reservations about Pawnshops or Good Wills and prefer not to get your games there? What do you guys think?

I personally like to go into Pawnshops and what not to hunt for games, the only problem is the condition you can sometimes find games in.

sometimes you can get lucky, but that's very rare in my experience. I did get Twisted Metal 3 for free because it was pretty scratched up on Thursday, lucky me it played just fine on my PS3. But I've never found anything prior to the PS1/N64 at my local pawn shops and even then, nothing truly great worth buying for the prices they had them (Discs 1, 3, and 4 of Final Fantasy 8 for $15, not something I'd ever be willing to do).

yea.. i wen't to some thrift stores yesterday and found mario paint $5, crazy taxi 2 (DC) $3, and power stone(DC) $3.. sometimes i get luck.. sometimes i don't... i also like the flee market.. but the problem with the flee market it that it's outdoors.. so if you find a system you have to take their word for it that it works and you can't test it before you buy it..

Not really, I would if there were any good ones near me but pretty much all of them have the games at twice the cost or more of what it is online.

Sometimes I find some good deals. I bought a Dreamcast controller for $1 with the box but the controller wasn't in the best condition. The system prices at the Pawn stores are usually way to high but the games I can get a good deal.

I've made a few attempts, but haven't found anything of much value yet.

No I don't. In my experience, the best deals are on ebay for older games.

i go to Goodwill all the time. Ive found Gamecube and older systems for $20 or less and flipped many for profit on Ebay. Games are always $4 or less. Right now i have 2 version 1 snes and 1 mini from goodwill, 30 snes games, an nes with almost 40 games, 3 wiimotes, a ps2 slim, a streetfighter anniversary fighting controller, an n64 with 2 games and expansion pack, and a couple other things from Goodwill in my collection.

I work at a pawn shop.

I get first dibs on stuff that comes out.

I now have four copies of Super Mario RPG... for $12.

The biggest problem with 2nd hand shops, is that 90% of the games are sports games, these are the games that people usually trade away first.

still , occasionally you find some good deals

Ew you have no idea where they've been... I've only been to a pawn shop once in my life and it wasn't that interesting. Definitely not Pawn Stars :P

I do it every so often. I manage to find games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Legend of Dragoon for $5 a pop, so it's worth the hunt in most cases!

Yeah I do occasionally, sometimes I find a really RARE game, as I've said I found Parasite Eve 1, with the case and booklet brand spankin new :) and all the time I will find a common PS1 game like a Tony Hawk Pro Skater or a Fighting Force

There is a few people at the flea markets I attend that are really good buying games from. Though I only go to a couple of them since haggling deals with them is easy. And they are pretty good on swapping something if it doesn't work.

Pawn shops are another great place. And I kinda made a name for myself with a few of the owners. So when they see me step in now. They try to make friendly talk and offer some games at lower prices then what they orignally have.

The best deal I got was a Super Scope with the defult game and orignal package except the box for under $20. Luckily half a year beforehand I saw someone throwing out the orignal cardboard box to the Super Scope. So I asked for it and they gave it to me for free. So now I got a complete package of the Super Scope with everything in it. Which I pull out about once a year or during parties.

Though Thrift stores are just as good sometimes. 2 weeks after trying to swap a dreamcast and games for just a saturn. I found one at Value Village with the sega racing wheel and 2 controllers. Had no price tag so they ask for someone and I kept saying "$30". Eventually they said sure it is worth about that. Works like a friggin charm and I eventually got virtual cop, virtua fighter, that nascar racing game, and Panzer Dragoon 1.

yeah, i lived near a pawn shop before and went on a weekly basis. Now Its more of a hassle, but I go to thrift stores and pawn shops once in a while. with the economy the way it is, its harder to find the good games. People are pawning games more often, but people are buying games used more often too. so its hit or miss often. yardsales are great or horrible too.

I don't, all you find is a bunch of bad PS2 games.

About 3 years ago I bought Giant Gram 2000 (Japanese DC game) in a british second-hand-pawn shop chain called 'Cash-Convertors' - paid £2.50 (equiv is less than US$4.00) - the box instructions and disc's were all mint - was rare bargain mind...:D

I've never found anything too special at thrift stores or Good Wills, but I've managed to find a good game occasionally, and that's been enough of a reason for me to keep crawling back to them. You might say I'm an optimist regarding these sorts of things! For some reason I see a fair amount of genesis games at these places. Sports games and common titles mostly, which translates to games I don't want or already have.

Sometimes I do. The best deal I ever found was Ico for $1 at a yard sale with everything included and in good shape.
