Hey guys I was just wondering this. Which games do you prefer old school or new school games and why?

I thought of this question when I went to the store and saw all the games cost £50-£100 I was remembering the times when games costed £10-£15 and £25 at most.

I prefer personally old school games and here are my reasons:

1. They had a affordable price.

2. You know company would release games every 6 months instead of 2-6 years.

3. The games actually back then had more challenge in them than newer games. I just think new games are too easy.

4. I think new games are too busy with the graphics of a game than actual gameplay or story line (If the game has a story line off course)

However I know old school games where really basic back then and all games where very cartoon based. Not to say very buggy.

But let me know what you guys think.

I prefer old school games at least when it comes to MP FPS PC games for these reasons

  • No regenerating health
  • No microstransactions or lootboxes less greed and more fun
  • Slower pace at least when it came to older BF games
  • No perks, kill streaks, no skins, gimmicks ect..
  • Less uptight publishers and devs when you where allowed to mod MP AAA games and rent servers on day one
  • Expansions packs instead of crappy DLC
  • No battle royale

There are a lot of new games that I truly adore but most of those games are coming from lower budget and indie studios rather than AAA developers. I'd say I get just as much enjoyment out of newer games as I did and still do from older games but I find myself less reliant on big budget titles and well known developers to deliver it as I did with older games.

Older stuff for sure. Not really interested in the newer games these days but, they are more immersive even still.

Quite cool that you guys are mostly in the same reason about old and new games.

There are pros and cones for both of the games which I mentioned.

However games will keep getting slower and slower to be relased at this stage.

I still enjoy old school beat em ups and run and gun platformers. Games like red dead and GTA are great open world experiences done right so I'd have to go present.

Both to be honest but I do go back to Retro gaming from time to time.

I enjoy both tbh, but I put a lot more time into current titles. My gaming tastes have changed over the years. I mainly play online multiplayer. I used to enjoy Nintendo platformers and racers, but now I can barely stomach them. I’ll play a PUBG or Forza Horizon over my entire Nintendo collection.

Sure we had more games and quicker releases back then, but those were diamond in the rough days. Controllers were off (N64 anyone?), reviews weren’t important so most licenced games were awful, and gaming was more expensive (when you factor in inflation). Games were more challenging? Yes - but that’s because content was light so they had to make you do-over often.

Both, to me it is a dependence on quality in the right area. Over something superficial like an engine gimmick/ graphics or feature(s) lacking substance.

It just needs to play good, and be my kind of game (which is pretty ranged).

@Sevenizz: I agree with what you say but personally I could give you number examples on games that the older versions had more challenge in them. I say games where harder back then as they didn't just focus making sure kids can beat the game.

Here is a example Gta 3, vice city and San Andreas are way harder than GTA five because here are the reasons.

- Harder missions

- Gta V had way too checkpoints.

Same goes for the early crash bandicoot games from 1- Warped. They are much harder than current Crash Bandicoot games that come out.

Both, although if many of the retro games that I enjoyed playing growing up were more easily accessible without emulators or needing me to dig out and hook up my old consoles, I'd be finding myself playing them more often....

Love retro games because you normally get the FULL game from the start rather than having developers purposely hold out content from day 1 to sell separately for extra bucks. Also, games obviously seemed to went through a more thorough quality check before they get released unlike today where many games feel like they are released in their alpha/beta stages....

Love newer games because of their technical aspects. Better animation, sound quality, graphic quality, and advancements in gameplay. And, although games today get released buggy and un-optimized as hell, they have the potential to get fixed with patch releases unlike retro games which would have been bad and buggy forever....

older games.

they weren't all about microtransactions, overpriced deluxe editions, overpriced DLC that should of been included with the game or purposely withheld to charge later, online cheating and remaking/rehashing stories.

The date a video game was made doesn't matter. I still play Sega Genesis games, NES Classic Edition, Atari Vault games, etc.

You can't just say "I like older games better" or "I like newer games better." There are good old and good new games.

I like both. As long as it's good. If it's as nice as Polysphere, Minecraft, I would love them. I had them free from apknite.com, and can't believe still addicted to it though playing again and again
