I'm not sure. I like the RE games, but there is a LOT of wandering around. In RE2 I remember wandering around for about 2 hours trying to figure out what to do. And in the older games instead of spaniards you got zombies. Instead of killing everything, you're supposed to avoid wasting ammo whenever possible. The gameplay of the older RE games is very different from RE4. But the older RE games are good if you are sure of what you're getting when you buy them. You're not getting intense, fast paced gameplay. You're getting lots of puzzle solving, key hunting, and wandering around. But you're also getting great boss fights, terrifying moments, and a fun B horror movie feel.

How did you get lost in RE4? It's so linear.

Quite possibly, although I cannot guarantee it. 4 is very different from the previous games in the series - and not even considered a proper, worthy sequel by some (possibly including myself, but I haven't played it).

The original for the PlayStation (and the Saturn) and Code Veronica is where it's at!

RE4 was very linear and the puzzles are very simple compared to the other RE games. Also I didn't find it as scary as the old RE games. To me it was more of a shooter than the old RE adventure games, but if you didn't like RE4 then you probably wont like the older ones.

Resident Evil 1 is one of the best games ever made (tied for my favorite) but if you couldn't figure out what to do in the linear RE4, you probably won't get very far at all in the real REs.

If you couldn't handle RE4, the original games would eat you alive. No pun intended.

Not to sound confrontational but, if RE:4 had too much wandering around for you then you should drop the idea of ever playing a survival horror game, RE:4 hardly even counts as one and you seem to bothered by the most common element. Unless what you really hated was the Los Gonades. In which case the other games are worth a shot. (They have Zombies)

I highly doubt it due the reason you didn't like Resident Evil 4. In comparrison to the older Resident Evil games, RE4 is a rail shooter game. But if you'd really want to try then be my guest, I'd recommend Resident Evil 2, it think it's more friendly towards new players then the others.

I'd at least check them out. The gameplay is different and, in my opinion, better. Plus, there are actual zombies and a whole lot less of the contextual button presses.

Your reason for not liking RE4 doesnt make a lot of sense. But as was said if you didnt like RE4 you wont like the others.

There is a good chance you will; I know a lot of people who didn't care for RE4 because of its departure from the traditional RE gamplay and plot. I know for me personally RE through RECV are by far my favorites. I did like RE4, but it was far less enjoyable then itspredecessors.

But this person doesn't like RE4 for different reason than others. If he didn't like wandering around in the very base point A to point B style game that is RE4, he won't like wandering around in the old games where it's much easier to get lost or stuck.
