Not anymore for me, I just play to have fun and enjoy the experience. I don't really care if I complete games anymore since I play whatever I feel like even if I am playing another game, so I play other games even if I haven't finish the current one I am playing. Seems as I've gotten older I just feel apathy and uncompetitive in games now a days. I play mostly to pass the time and as I said earlier for the experience. Even if I am playing something multiplayer like Team Fortress 2 and I die a lot it really doesn't bug me and I just laugh usually.

But what about you all? Do you care if you finish/complete a game in general? Interested in your responses, thank you.

Well, of course. I buy the game with the full intention of finishing it. The only time that doesn't hapen is if I really hate the game. Even if I just think its okay, I'll still get through it. I like to finish my games :)

I used to play games just until I got bored/stuck, but lately I've been trying to beat all the games that I start. It feels rewarding to finally finish and get your moneys worth out of a game. The only time I don't finish games now is if I hate it.

Of course. I don't watch half a movie or read half a book, so why would I play half a game? I like to finish what I've started.

I used to be very bad about not finishing games; especially in my childhood on the Super NES. I started doing it again and stopped myself. Why? Because we cheat ourselves when we do that. You think you're tired of it, but keep playing and there could be a spur that gets you interested and keeps you playing. It's also great to be able to tell your friends, "Yea, I beat it." Yea it sounds dirty, but it's true.

Even though I don't beat a lot my games, I do want to. Like someone else mentioned, it's about getting my money's worth. I also play for the experience, and I've recently found that the experience does get better with finishing the game.

Just like the OP, however, I have lost all interest in competitive gaming. I do like to play COD and Halo and the like, but I don't care if I win or lose. I'm a decent player, so it's not like I'm dragging anyone down, but i certainly don't get mad if I or a teammate gets killed. And yes, maybe that does come with age!

It depends on how interested in the game I am. If it is a boring game or slow, then no I don't really care. But I try to finish as many games as possible. Plus, renting games through GameFly I don't feel guilty about buying games and not liking them. I have saved so much money by using GF that it is ridiculous.

I try to finish my single-player player games before buying more games. As for online gaming..... I've cut down almost to nothing.

For the most part I do; I try to finish everything I play. I am straying away from that though. I used to force myself to finish games I bought even if I didn't really like them, but recently I've decided that it's better to be out money than waste time playing something I don't like.

not anymore. i see so many gamers complaining about their massive piles of unfinished games and i think.. it shouldn't be a chore. it appears to create stress. so now i only generally buy one game at a time, and play that. i also play more for performance or high score (shooters, action games etc.), or extreme challenge, rather than for story or trophies or collecting stuff. if a game is taking you so long to finish it obviously isn't compelling enough and you should forget about it.

this is what i don't understand. most stories in games are either awful or non-existent, yet gamers a lot of the time play for the story.

I haven't completed or even started the single player campaign for most of the shooters I own. I got sick of that type of gameplay a decade ago.

depends on the game. sometimes even if i don't really like a game that much and it's frustrating i'll still want to finish it just to prove to myself that i can. but other times i don't care if i finish or not.

I always aim to beat a game I purchase. However, I am not going to complete a game (i.e. get all special items, find all secret locations, etc.) unless I really enjoy the title.

I'm in the same boat.:P I rarely beat anything. I trade in more new games in a year than I beat by at least a 3:1 margin.

If the game is compelling enough that I want to see how it ends, I will complete it. I get easily distracted by new games that come out, so I don't usually complete any one game in one fell swoop, but I'll always come back and finish the job if I feel it's deserving.

Yep. I generally do. Sometimes it takes a while though. Especially with RPG's sometimes if I'm into several RPG's at a time that have a lot of content, then it can take me weeks, or even months to finish them ( I like exploring extra content a LOT).

I have struggled with this for years. I used to force myself to finish every game that I purchased. Now I am better at trading in the games that I don't like and try to get over the fact that I just didn't like them enough to finish them.

No. I don't need to finish a game. As long as the game is great that is all that matters to me.

Basically, I finish a game if it entertains me. The best games are supposed to hold your attention until the end, so if it doesn't, it's not really worth my time. That usually only happens for games I get cheap and with the prior knowledge that the purchase is a risk. I have a huge backlog, but it's generally filled with games I genuinely want to play and finish.

I try to eventually complete the games I buy, but some if I don't like em I don't force my self through them anymore. I mean finishing Two Worlds for me would have been murder I don't think I'll ever complete it.

I have other uncompleted games (usually ones that are meh such as Pirates of the Caribbean etc.), but I also have some that I really want to beat i.e Fable II, Oblivion, Bioshock 2, ones that I just haven't gotten around to due to my backlog. So in short some games I have started then stopped simply because I really want to play a new game I just bought (like Halo:Reach :P) others I have stopped because I genuinely disliked them. As for being competitive I myself don't really care if I lose or win in multi-player, but I do get slightly frustrated if I keep getting killed over and over again while having no success.

I disagree if you hate it you're wasting your time and getting zero enjoyment out of it. Its one of those old philosophies that you somehow feel better that you beat the game even if you got just as little joy out of it in comparison to if you hadn't beaten it.

I would compare it to finishing food after your full. You feel like your not wasting it since your eating it, but in reality if your full and not enjoying it your wasting just as much as if you had simply thrown it out.

If I actually enjoy the game, then I intend to finish it. However, if it's a game that I don't enjoy, I'll almost never resume playing it, which means I won't ever complete it. For example, I bough Mass Effect from Steam a few months ago. I'll never finish that game.

I usually don't beat the games I play but I gotta say it still bugs me when I don't finish a game. Achievement points make me more motivated to finish a game too though I feel it shouldn't. I usually don't feel as bad if the game's a rental and I don't beat it. Overall, it's just not worth the time commitment if you don't enjoy the game though.

It bothers me when I don't finish games, but I can't say that it affects my purchasing habits too much. Generally I tend to focus on the value of the games I purchase rather than whether it's completed. If I can get $2/hour or better within the first year of purchase, I feel like I got my money's worth and don't feel the need to complete it if I don't feel like playing it. Plus, I often have about a 10-15 hour limit on games before I need a break. A few months ago, after a discussion on the PC board about Far Cry 2, I picked it up and put a solid 18 hours into, which was me only being about half done. I put it down until last week and have since gotten back into it. So even if I don't finish a game it one straight shot (a pretty big feat for me, really), I usually do come back around after a break to polish them off. Though I do end up feeling a little stupid when, after putting a decent amount of time into a game, taking a break and then finding out I'm 7/8ths of the way through it with an hour or two left to go.
