Do you like the dodging system in Witcher 2 or 3?

I have played a little bit of Witcher 2, and something that I don't like is the combat roll. It's just too easy to pull off. Most of the time no matter your timing or direction of the dodge, you end up pulling it off successfully. Like even when their sword literally is supposed to connect you can combat troll out of it (no pun intended). And another think that I dislike is how spammable it is. I saw some gameplay videos of Witcher 3 and I like that you can do short dashes now, which gives a better feel of combat and I noticed that you really do need to dodge properly, although I noticed lesser enemies with swords are as easy to handle as ever.

Maybe the short dash should be spammable, but the combat roll, maybe not.

It was maybe a bit too convenient that you could roll your way out of most trouble, but it didn't really bother me personally. Combat still felt satisfying, the world was beautiful and the story was engaging. But what you say is very true and it's a good reason to dislike it. Personally, though, I'm happy I could spam that dodge, because I don't think I would have fared as well without it. Most enemies packed quite a punch, especially in groups, so being able to quickly dodge away was often vital in my case.

As for The Witcher 3, I stay away from any game I'm interested in until reviews come out.

I hope they change the combat dramatically in The Witcher 3.

I've been reflecting on The Witcher 2, and I have come to the conclusion that it was a pretty disappointing experience. While the combat in the first game wasn't amazing, it felt satisfying and very true to the character. The Witcher 2 is a bad action game, and you don't feel like you are playing as a Witcher at all. Having to roll dodge everywhere was phenomenally ridiculous on so many levels. Alchemy is the reason why Witchers are badass, but it's annoying to handle and you don't need to use it at all in The Witcher 2. Only two of the games magic spells were actually useful in combat. Not to mention those annoying quick time events. I know you can turn them off, but why even have them at all when there is so few of them? I have other complaints about the world and story, but the combat was the most aggravating for me.

Wait what? try playing it in the harder difficulties and see if you don't need it, stop playing it in normal then complaining you don't need to use everything

@Lulu_Lulu: Idk mate. Like you, I'm not really a fan of that game but I think the dodge mechanics are acceptable. Although I don't like the fact that it has some invincibility frames. Sometimes the orientation of your dodge doesn't matter which is the biggest gripe I have with dodging mechanics in games. What I suggest for witcher 3 is that the combat roll should involve some costs such as stamina because it is really op. It's as op as the jump over bad guys aerial move in Batman that lets you keep your combo AND dodge an enemies attack no matter how close the punch was to hit you. But the short dashes I guess it can be spammable. I'm simply asking for a perfect balance of parrying, blocking and dodging, rather than dodging being the only thing people use. If you notice in the witcher 3 gameplay videos it is too easy to dodge enemy attacks. What I want is that when an enemy swings and you dodge too early, he adjusts the path of his blade to hit you. Timing should be important when dodging. You know that feeling when a blade barely grazes your skin.

Anyways without a doubt this game will probably still turn out to be awesome. Btw idk if witcher 3 has both a short dash and a combat roll or whether the roll has been completely replaced by the dash.

I already beat the game. Why would going through on a harder difficulty change my feelings about my first experience? Normal is the default difficulty for the game, it should be the mode that challenges the player in all the essential game mechanics.

@JangoWuzHere: I have seen 1, and it LOOKS like it was good for its time, but it seems like you have to time strikes as oppose to hitting enemies who are actually in range. Either way neither was perfect, but I can definitely say that 2 had flaws in combat, but It was still amazing in my opinion

The roll in TW3 seems to have a way shorter range. TW2's roll was bad, but necessary. It was pretty dumb. You could upgrade the range and you looked like a moron with long range rolls. I think they are focusing on giving you the option of like 3 or 4 evasive maneuvers.

It's alright - to be honest I found combat movement too clunky in Witcher 2 for the flexibility it was trying to provide. You get all this combat movt freedom, but if feels like you're steering a whale around or drunk (a bit of an exaggeration, but still). Nothing worse than dying because the character is responding in a clunky way to your intentions. I do like how multifaceted combat can be - the face you have some many tools and actions as your disposal. But it's not very elegantly done

Played the tutorial of witcher2 and ended it too quickly to really get to grips with the combat gameplay, it seemed that there's no actual lock on so you cant back away from an enemy while facing them you just end up running away, not liking that at all.

@ariabed: there is lock on but the controls are just too clunky. So your best bet is just to roll, roll, roll...

Any game with a megaman combat roll is a better video game.

Witcher combat feels exactly like batman or assassins creed
