Well first of all FF8 is not a PS2 game. Second Oct as in October? Whaaat? And on to the topic yes I like love stories in games as they are another way to help the characters develop unless we are talking about FF games in which the romance is as sofisticated and thoughout as it is in many shoujo animes and manga meaning not at all.

i am more like squall in real life, the romance in that game made me play it, the best romance game story i have seen so far is in either star ocean 2 or wild arms 2 about the heroine was a town character. i learned a few things from these games, on love, the dialogues which have romance on it. i meant romantic dialogues, English is not my mother tongue.

For sure, it gives a game substance. All Final Fantasy titles have a romance element to them (FFVII: Cloud - Tifa/Aerith, FFX Tidus - Yuna) and it gives you an extra incentive to complete the game.....to see if they live happily ever after, as sad as it sounds we all long for a happy ending.

I really don't mind romance in video games, if done well.

As for FFVIII, it really annoyed me how everyone was always trying to get Squall & Rinoa together. I say let them do it on their own.

Romance is good only when it's done right.

Do it wrong like Force Unleashed, it makes me want to break the game disc in half.

Shadow Hearts series is prime example of how to do romance right. Final Fantasy Tactics is another game that did it right (Delita and Ovelia)

Even mediocre romance story is fine with me. It adds decent layer to game like Prince of Persia, but poor romance story is quick way to ruin the entire game.

As long as they are done well, I don't mind romance in anything. Whether in a movie, a book or a game, if it isn't done well, or if it doesn't fit in right, then I hate it.

The love story element of FF10 is why it is one of my favorite games, and I really want to so more romance paths in games like thye have in Mass Effect/Jade Emprie/Dragon Age. It adds a new element to the gameplay and helps immerse you into the characters.

No, never. I hate romance in games, I think books and movies have spoiled me maybe, but if there is one thing a videogame dev can't do right it's romance. Never have I liked a romantic sub plot in a game, they always feels so rigid and unrealisitc in every way, not to mention all I have seen are just cliche after cliche. I could play videogames very happily if there was never a romantic sub plot in any game again. That's just me though.

I think you just never experianced good romance in games yet.

Play the games I recommended above (Final Fantasy Tactics and first two Shadow Hearts games) and your opinion might change.

Depends on how they are done... as with all other stories, if they are told right, and not really cheesy I like them alot... the kind of heartwarking, a bit naive love story always gets to me ^^

Most lovestories sadly boil down to "Yo! me think you hawt!" reply "oh yeah? I jsut thought the same thing about you too" *snuggie*

which is really really horrible... as if I dont hate those variants enough in movies allready -.-

but then sometime a game comes along with a really heartwarming story about the struggle of insecurity, and not knowing, and hope... How they struggle to find eachother, and figure out what to say or how to say it.

those I really really like :3 Im a sucker for a good love story... but dont tell my friends -.-

Depends on the game and if it ties in well to the story. Some good war movies have pointless romanctic scenes in them which just detracts from the overall movie. If a game throws one in without it tying in properly, then the same result. It shouldn't just be thrown in so its there.. it should be there because it adds more to character development, making you feel some emotion towards the characters. eg, two people fall in love, one dies. You then feel sorry for the one left behind.

If it's done right. And to be honest...I might be flamed for this so here goes...FFVIII and FFX romance was poorly done and sloppy. There I said it. *runs away from rabid FF fans*
