i hate it if it is poorly made unnecessary shyt.
what about you?

i think developers should work more at making their stories more playable. the worst case scenario is that all the user does is kill things in levels that are segmented by cutscenes babbling information frantically. both elements are done a disservice that way. however, putting the player in hallways just to walk forward, hit out-of-system qte's, and watch the story unfold that way just so developers can say "see? its playable!" isnt much of a solution.
i think a little restraint is in order. don't worry if the game isnt this intricate 5 act epic. develop a few systems well and tie them into the game's themes.
I love video game cinematics if they're done right.
Take a game like Shenmue as a bad example. The voice acting is TERRIBLE in that game. It makes the cutscenes not very fun to watch. It makes the story seem corny since the voice actors don't do a convincing job. It's a great game, but the voice acting sucks.
But take L.A. Noire or Metal Gear Solid 4 for example. Both of those games have top notch cutscenes with top notch scripting writing and voice acting. Watching the cutscenes in those games is like watching a great movie.
I like game cinematics especially now that they actually reflect what your character is wearing or what weapon their holding. Makes it feel more immersive.
Love them if they're good, hate them if they're bad. If they're just going to give me some testosterone dripping moron then no, I sure as hell don't care to watch him spew out meaningless crap in cutscenes. But if they give me interesting, likable characters, then I care about them and want to see how they deal with the situation in the cutscenes.
They really need to do them so they don't feel like they're interfering with gameplay as well. Nothing I hate more than feeling as if I'm just waiting for the cutscene to be over so I can start playing again. Or having a long action sequence interrupted by numerous "cinematic" moments. Like, can I control my guy again now? Nope, not yet. How about now? Ugh.
Cienamtics are an art, of course if they are good, had a previous storyline and fits with a main story, they are needed in a game to transmit the story and the main idea of it to the player
I mostly hate them. A good game will meld story into the gameplay rather than stopping your participation in the events. They should be kept to a minimum or not exist at all
I like cinematics when they're done right, I suppose it depends on many different factors. I love the cinematics (if we're talking cut scenes) in Mass Effect - especially in the Broken Shadow DLC - they leave plenty of fighting in along with this and gives the game a more satisfying feel. I can't think of any examples where I dislike the cinematics, can't be bothered to brainstorm.
o, all cinematics should be pausable! how many times does someone come in and want to talk to you in the middle of a cut scene! it's like some kind of cosmic law
There is a time and a place for cinematics in games, but most of the time they are over used. The general push seems to towards developing games to be as cinematic as possible, imitate movies as closely as possible. It should be going in the opposite direction.meetroid8
This is my main beef with modern day gaming and it seems as though the problem is progressively getting worse.....MGS4 is a perfect example.
I think the cinematic feel, immersion, and story should unfold and come to life with how the player interacts with the game, not from cutscenes. At that point video games stop becoming games and become films. I understand that cutscenes are needed but I think they are over-used.
I have no problems with cinematics in video games. I will sit and watch them no matter what game I am playing, but I do believe some do cinematics better than others... like Uncharted does a great job, Heavenly Sword did a great job.
I like game cinematics if there done right.

This. Red Dead Redemption, for example, had great cinematics that were meaningful and drove the plot forward without being too long. If a game makes me start feeling like I'm watching a movie rather than playing a game, however, then I know something is wrong.
I like them if I find the story is interesting, and they're not too long. For example I enjoy the cutscenes in games like Yakuza 4 and Resistance, but I hate them in other games like Tekken 6.
Depends if they are done the right way some games pull it off and some fail but they are important to me because I love a game with a good story.
Cinematics are good in moderation but games this current generation in general use it too frequently. I much prefer how Valve tell their stories where you have free control of your character at all times.
Adventure games plus whatever genres the Tomb Raider games and Uncharted series are, cool. Strategy games can also have some cutscenes at the end of a battle.
But, for FPS games? Uncool.
I don't mind cinematics as long as they are used sporadically. If it's used too often to the point of where the game is unplayable, it's a major turn off. I didn't buy or rent this game just to watch a movie in a videogame format, like in the case of the Xenosaga series or with a few of the Metal Gear Solid games. For example, I've never played 4 (yet heard so many good things about it), but I've heard the cinematics were longer than the ones shown in previous Metal Gear Solid games. That's not good!
