These days there is so much hype about independent game developers. I recently saw Indie Game: The Movie, and it got me wondering if people play more big game titles, if you prefer indie games, or whether it matters to you or not if a game is made by a small company or a large one.

I play all games.

Only criteria is that they capture my attention and i enjoy them. So i play indie games like Papers Please or big AAA titles GTA V or Dishonoured.

I do not disregard games because of the developer.

If the game looks good or interesting I'll play it. I still play more of the bigger releases, but indie games have been taking up a lot more of my time then they did say 5 years ago. And there are some truly great indie games out there.

I mostly stick to the big budget games but there is the odd indie game that I'll play but that's pretty rare.

I find this true for myself as well. It seems that although making games for a living sounds fun, it is actually more difficult than it seems. At least when they are compared to AAA games like Call of Duty, which cost millions to produce.

I will play both. I am find that more praised indie games are often time very poor games with one trick and bigger title can not make one mistake without being drag into the mud.

I lost count of how often I read something like this: "This indie game have this one element (that have very limited game play usage) that make it great while the Cod (Which they do not play) is the same game." It letting a game slid to much and unfairly attacking a game.

In other world they are non-AAA game that I will play but I find this how prasing of indie games to be too much about cherry picking.

As for innovation, I look at the more AAA games for that type of stuff and the indie games are gimmicks.

@wiouds: That is interesting. Do you have any specific titles as an example of this? I play a game called biocode x, because I like it more than Minecraft. These are both indepedent games, but they are different. Biocode x is more realistic, it also performs better, I also simply enjoy playing it more, is it a gimmick? No, I don't think so. Biocode X is the only indie game I play, except for the occasional Minecraft PE on my phone. I can't wait till Biocode X comes out on Android.

I tend to play games that fit my interest, and what I'd enjoy playing. I can enjoy Indie games and Publisher funded games, but I tend to buy more Publisher games.

The Indie scene certainly has games I rank highly, however I tend to notice most are more focused on a nostalgic audience or being walking-simulators, and I don't enjoy games that don't have fun gameplay. For every Binding of Isaac and Owlboy you have 50 titles that should have stayed on Mobile platforms_

I play a mix of indie and big title and mid tier too.

Like not so long ago I did play and got the platinium for Odin Sphere. I'm playing Worlds Of Final Fantasy. At the end of the month FF15 comes out.

Prior to play Odin Sphere I was into Tales from Borderlands.

Well Minecraft is gimmick then other games refined the ideal in innovate ways.

Then CoD level design is always trying new things with their campaign staging. (Please don't point to the distance look at the levels to prove your point.) The problem is that this type of innovation is in the detail or places most do not look for. Yet they get bashed for being the same every time.

Look at the Journey, so many praised about the person subjective experience. While, I read a number of comments about people not being happy with its game play and they get told it does not matter.

Depends on what's released, basically. I played lots of indie games when I felt AAA gaming sucked. Now we got a few good games, so I play mostly Overwatch, DOOM and BF1 right now.

I know what I like and that's what I play - it ends up being a good mix. The size of the Dev has no bearing on my decision to play a game.

@wiouds: OK, I never tried journey, but it looked interesting. The gameplay was supposed to be focused on people working together on multiplayer, according to the developer. She gave a talk I saw on youtube.

Same here. I try to keep an eye out on anything that looks interesting. That being said, i don't elude myself. Triple A and Indie alike can be cesspool of terrible games.

A little from colum A and a little from colum B.
Depends on wether I find the game interesting and/or enjoyable.

I play both. I don't really consider their status Indie vs. AAA when I play. I play the games I might find interesting when I see them in the online stores or pick up from a retailer. And frankly I find the Indie vs. AAA misleading and confusing. What is considered AAA and what is Indie? I can go on a huge rant about this question alone but I won't bother. I just want to re-itereate that I play whatever I may fancy and whether they're called indie or AAA means diddly-squat.

I will generally play a game if it looks intriguing to me regardless of who made it, but I tend to play smaller/ lesser known/ independently made games these days.

I play both but I trend towards indie games, I do enjoy modern games but I absolutey hate open world games which are becoming increasingly more common.

like @Jacanuk said a good game is a good game, it's the only requirement. As long as it holds my attention.

which as I get older is harder and harder to do, I am finding out :(

As long as the game is good I don't mind playing it.It really doesn't matter if it was developed by a big company or an independent gamer.
