Do you prefer current gen consoles or last gen consoles more?

Last gen for definite.

This gen has just been so damn underwhelming! Even looking towards the end of this year there is almost nothing that I must buy or that I am even remotely excited for.

Mafia III out this weeks looks......okay. Just watched a bit of gameplay on The Angry Joe Show. Looks fair but nothing really special.

Horizon: Zero Dawn has the potential to be great but could very well end up a snooze fest. Killzone was flashy but in terms of gameplay and story it was pretty mediocre.

Even though I like about three games you listed. Currently it's oblivious, Wii/360/PS3 stomp! Those systems are listing with masterpieces.

Not a fair comparison however. Considering you're comparing one generation with a finished life-cycle, to the current (Gen 8) which for many is in 'early' territory.

It would be better to compare Gen 6 (XB/GC/DC/PS2) to Gen 7.

Right now the 8th generation of consoles hasn't got enough to compete.

However to give G8 some love I'll name some highlight games-

Bloodborne, Dark Souls III, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, The Evil Within, D00M (reboot), Ori and the Blind, Overwatch, The Witcher III, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, Bayonetta 2.

I like these new systems better, but last gen's games were much better.

Since th Ps2 era, the gens get worse. So Ps2 > Ps3 > Ps4 (and all the other system wihin their gen)

i agree with this. Although I'd throw in PS2 > PS1> PS3> bit wars era (which goes from NES through SNES) > PS4. PS2/Xbox/GC era was the perfect mix of new ips and strong franchising with constant sleeper hits coming out of nowhere.

I still prefer the Xbox 360 over the Xbox One and all of the other current gen consoles as well, but I prefer the PS4 over the PS3 and I prefer the Wii U over the Wii.

I would say that last-gen was better, but I'm not totally disappointed with the current systems. Now I will say that the exclusives for the current systems haven't been overwhelming, but I have enjoyed 3rd party tittles like The Witcher 3, Dying Light, MGS5 and a few other tittles.

The current-gen might not be measuring up overall to the last, but I will say it has been solid.

Last gen was good but went for to long.

Not a meaningful comparison given that the last gen lasted twice as long as this one has. How many of the best games from the last gen came in its second half? Probably quite a lot of them.

Uhhh.....to be honest, I find Last Gen to be a bit better for games. Even two years in last gen, we have had some really good and innovative games out at the time. But hopefully, we'll have some really creative games coming out within the year. Alot of the games this gen have been a little lackluster, in regards to creativity. At least that's how I feel.

there was loads of great games that came in the second part of last gen but not to forget that in 2007 alone (2 years in to last gen) halo 3, bioshock, stalker shadow of chernobyl, mass effect, modern warfare, crysis, uncharted, the witcher, portal, assassin's creed, super mario galaxy, the orange box and probably loads more were released. and that's in addition to everything that had come in 06 / late 05. but yeah time wise it's not yet a fair comparison.

but your post raises an interesting point. if the console release cycle becomes every 2-3 years instead of 7-8 years, will the concept of "gens" as we know them, die? and does that mean consoles will inherit the pc gen-less model?

I enjoyed 8 years of my 360, it's kind of unfair to compare at this point, for me the highlight of last gen is the Mass Effect Trilogy, Deus Ex Human Revolution, and the Bethesda RPGs.

So far this Gen has given me The Witcher 3, Doom, Fallout 4 and Dragon Age Inquisition

Last generation, I wouldn't even say it's close.

I feel like this generation is nothing but a push for better graphics, which I really couldn't care less about. It is still early though, but I don't see how they can top the kind of games the 360/PS3, even the Wii in some regards, were able to put out.

XB1 is one of if not the worst console ive ever owned and has the least games ive wanted to buy on the system

PS4 feels like a weak hot plastic fan blazing PC and ui looks my ps vita

WiiU looks so damn bad an the exclusives look way worse than the wii there isn't even a 3d mario game on the platform or a zelda

I would put Playstation 2 down as the last console that I really enjoyed. I've been a PC gamer since then. I have spent considerable time with the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Wii, and Wii U because of friends (never seen an Xbone in person though) and I think that the Wii had a handful of good games but otherwise PC does everything else dramatically superior. I personally think PC gaming is better than ever and console gaming is worse than ever. There's really no point in buying a Sony or Microsoft console. Sony has a very mild handful of typically generic AAA trash exclusives. Most Microsoft exclusives are also on PC. But PC has a HUGE amount of exclusives from a VAST array of genres that consoles just cannot touch. There's no console exclusive even 1/10th as good as StarCraft 2 or Civilization V. Just does not exist.

I think the new consoles are better. The ps4 is a nice upgrade but the games aren't as good and a new console already is silly. I voted for last gen just because of the games although both kind of overrated so far that way. The ps4 is probably the best designed console ever though.

The Xbone and kinect is a flop and all the camera stuff was a real turn off. There are two sides to this gen where it's just outright milkage and invasive and then there is good hardware.

Everyone always says they enjoyed last gen more than this. Last gen they were saying they enjoyed last gen more. And next gen they will say they enjoyed this gen more as it will be last gen then.

But last gen they said the same thing. Oh how wonderful the last gen was and this gen (which was last gen) was terrible and anyone who disagreed was just wrong. Now your saying that last gen was best and this gen is rubbish.

this happen every time a new gen is out. The current gen get praised for it hardware but they talk about the game of the last gen.

I still prefer last gen but I think that's purely because it has a full catalogue of classic games whereas current gen is still rolling them out. For example, I'm looking forward to the new Mass Effect and Cyberpunk 2077. Once those are out I think I'll consider this gen to be superior.

I think I will always prefer the current gens. Why would you stick with inferior hardware when theres a new generation? Maybe when this generation is done we could compare previous gens to each other. But I would always prefer the current gen. Also many good old titles gets remastered as well, which I much more prefer than having inferior sequels made by a bunch of new developers with no history attached to the original titles.
