I just beat MGS2 and I don't even know WTF the story is about....

I didn't watch a single cutscene in that game because they were too damn long. Now I'm playing the first and third games and I don't watch the scenes in them either is that a good idea?

Do you skip em like me?

Well, they're nice to look at, like watching a movie, but if you already know what to do, you might as well skip them. I tend to watch the scenes in my first playthrough.

If I've seen them before and are boring, or I just died and had to repeat the level with the cutscene taking up 5 minutes before the fight starts. Otherwise I always watch a cutscene at least once.

Please please please please tell me you're joking when you say you skipped the cutscenes in MGS2....

All of the MGS games have a very deep story, and if you skip it you're really missing out on a lot.

Anyway I rarely skip cutscenes, usually they're quite well done. One of the most recent games where I skipped was Lost Planet, since the story was stupid and needlessly complicated. However the actual game was great, so it didnt' matter. :D

That was the first thought that came to me. Of all games, he chose this one (or this series) to skip cutscenes.

If you do skip cutscenes, you could just read a fanboy's version of the story on wikipedia.

I much rather watch them, then read them.

Depends on the game. I played all the Ace Combat games and never watched a single cutscene. I didnt really care about the story. I just wanted to do the missions.

It depends on the game, if its a RPG then the story is a big part of the game but if its something like Gears of War of Halo then it all comes down to gameplay and a story never seems to matter.

I at least watch the cut scenes once when I first play the game through. I want the whole experience when I first play a game.

I have to watch the cut scenes. To me the story is one of the most important parts of a game so if I skip out on the cut scenes that means that I missing out on the story.

i never skip them because im the kind of person that has to know whats going on in order to get into the game. and if you skip the sutscenes when they are really well put together on a game like say re4 the i dont know how you CANT watch them.

Always on the first play through. The story of a game, especially a good one, is my favorite aspect; getting into the role of a character and seeing the game and it's story unfold through the character's eyes has always appealed to me as a gamer.

If you honestly can't be patient enough to value an excellent story played out before your eyes, you must have ADD or something. It's downright wrong.

That's secondary, or off the radar entirely for some people.

Me, I usually watch them if only to know what to do or where to go next, but sometimes I take a pass.

I watch them through the first time through a game. Then if I'm playing through that game again I'll skip them unless something really cool happens that I like.

Not if it's the first time they're playing through. Otherwise, I'd have no idea about how the story was unfolding, because a lot of plot developments come via cutscenes.

Cutscenes are awesome. i can't believe you skip them and MGS2 of all games too. I hope that in the future we'll see more cutscenes in games.

I know what you mean about not understanding stories. They used to be simple to comprehend, but now they are getting more and more complicated. I still watch them though. However, to me the Metal Gear Solid games are all about the story and cutscenes compared to the gameplay. That is just my opinion though.

Always watch the first time, then everytime after that I only watch them if I forget what happens, or it's a really cool cutscene.

I try never to skip them. Unfortunately, my family is exceptionally good at interrupting them. I can play a game for hours undisturbed, and someone will bother me at the exact minute that I need to focus on a crucial cutscene or the actual end of a game. So if I miss it any cutscenes, it isn't on purpose.

I have a tendency to accidentally skip the first cut-scene with a game I've been waiting to play for a long while, especially those long drawn out intro's. Other then that I don't, just takes away from the overall game.

On some games i will watch them the second and third time through, especially the mgs games.... for me, the scenes are as important as the gameplay in these games.

I wish I skipped all the cutscenes and transmission dialogs in MGS2. They were so unbelievably absurd that I felt my IQ dropped significantly after finishing that terrible game.

I do not skip cut-scenes because the Story in a game is very important to me; along with the character interactions, dialogue, music etc...

But some Videogame Stories just don't make much sense at all, like MGS for example.
