The reason I am asking this is because I have OCD when it comes to my game cases. I always want the box art and a nice case with no sratches or anything. This is also the reason I walk out of Gamestop empty handed many times. So many of the game cases are replaced with these ugly white cases with these out of place yellow anime characters and a cheap black case. Why? Do people not take care of their cases? Isn't a case mandatory to take care of the disc? Half of the games there are in replaced cases!

I haven't bought anything from Gamestop in years. Used to hate those horrible replacement cases they'd stick stuff in. I get pretty much everything new from Amazon. I take care of them - just put them on the shelf or lay them on the table lol.

I have every case/box for all my games all in mint condition. I don't see how some people manage to damage their cases and disks so badly.

Neither do I. I remember going over to a couple of people's homes and they would have their boxes and videogame discs scattered all over the place. It was such a mess.

As for me, every time I'm done with a game, I always make sure to put back in its case and put the box back where it belongs. I also make sure to buy my games in mint condition and not used, because I believe in my copies being in the best condition possible.

Yes, that is why if you ever buy from me it is like getting brand new as I only touch the disc.

Really it isn't Gamestop's fault that they don't have the case for the game. Most people come in with a stack of disks or all their games in some booklet without cases. It's just the hand they are dealt.

This is true for the most part. People that take care of their stuff are usually collectors/people that don't trade games in. Gamestop usually gets games from kids or messy people. I really only go to gamestop to check for DS games I might have missed. If it has the case and instructions in good condition, there's really no reason not to buy it used. You pretty much cannot damage a DS game too badly. I've seen 360 games so scratched up I told them to just put it back.

My PS3 games look nearly un-used, the cases/disks don't have any scratches or visual flaws. As for my 360 games especially the older ones they're pretty beat up I should say still 100% usable tho.

I keep very good care of my discs and cases. I don't think it's ocd, just a desire not to mistreat the things you've spent your money on. Most times when I find a game I want used that's in a damaged/poor shape case at ebgames, I ask for a better one. They will, most times, switch out one for the other. If they don't, I just wait until I get more of the damaged cases and order a pack of brand new ones off ebay.

-

I have known many a people that toss their games around their already messy rooms like they were another piece of pizza crust. I would never go there to game, I like cleanliness. There are many more of them out in the world than us that truly love our belongings. I would suggest ordering online. At least there you can, often, see the case you are getting. Or get new cases. They're not that pricey.

I don't go out of my way to take care of them, but most of the time they're just sitting on a shelf or in a closet somewhere, so there's no way for them to get damaged anyway.

I also have OCD and treat them exactly the same way. I also have rules about purchasing preowned games and digital downloads. My theory is that if I do that they won't really be my games, they'll be someone elses just passed on to me. The cases and discs I own are always kept in mint condition, free of scratches and arranged on my shelf and in my draws by date and size of the franchise. For example, the series with the most games belonging to it are at the end of the shelf and solo games are last in order of their release date.

I've been thinking this myself, but more with the discs. I just got Lord of the Rings War in the North used from Gamestop, and am really amazed how horrible the disc looks. It still works but considering the game came out less than a year ago I can't imagine what someone did to the disc.

As for me, all my cases and discs are in pretty nice condition. After all, it's not like games are cheap so I see no reason not to take care of them.

Yes, most of mine are in relatively good shape. My worst ones have been purchased second hand online. It's annoyed me a few times when I buy a game advertised as "like new" and the case is dented in, has scratches, or an obnoxious sticker. My worse case that I originally bought broke down the middle when I opened it. It was my first PS3 game and I have no idea what happened. I may have opened it too hard, or it was because it was shipped from Best Buy...

I always keep my cases neat and pretty. I just like things to be orderly and nice looking. Same with my movies and ESPECIALLY my books.

It wasn't always like that though. Every playstation 1 game I owned as a kid has had the case broken and destroyed completley. I have to put my old Spyro the Dragon games in other little cases I had lying around.

I'm very OCD about it. I mean this literally as I have been diagnosed with OCD lol All of my game cases are VERY clean and if they can't be clean or they are too damaged I will go to GameStop (where I still have a few ex-co-wokers) and get a new case from them. They get cases for their traded in games that come without boxes so they usually have a TON of blank boxes.

I take care of my game cases the same as I take care of all of my belongings. Sometimes when I see really messed up cases in used game shops I can't believe they ever got in that state in the first place. What the hell are people doing with those cases?!

I keep mine in great shape. I don't even like the greatest hits type cases to be mixed in with my collection. I will usually replace them with the original green/clear/white colored cases. Now that's OCD...lol.

Yeah, I take care of them. Though I have had the odd accident with a couple of cases. But 95% of them are pretty much how they were when I bought them.

Too bad I can't say the same about my CD cases.....I'm always dropping the f*cking things...

Yes, i keep them well stacked and with as few scratches as possible(although since i order things from the internet all the time, a few scratches are inevitable).

It's not just games too, i also take great of the large amount of music CD cases i have.

I keep all the cases and manuals and inserts mint. I will pass on used games for the current consoles if the case isn't at least in good shape. I store the disks in the cases and on the closed shelf inside our entertainment centre.

Taking care in having them in the shelf when i'm not playing them, most of the time not even reading the manuals (so it stays COMPLETELY new xD ), only touching them at the side (though accidentelly a finger slips on the surface once or twice a year) and middle hole....yeah, apart from that, I do not clean them over with a tissue every 2 weeks every single case or so.

But if buy one used, and usually I check out GameSpot for used PS2 Games I have missed (thanks to them I own Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicles now and am very happy about this fact) out on back in the day I accept the damage to the disc to the degree as much as I wanted to have the game, as long as it's still functional only of course. In case of Dark Cloud some guy thought it would be a good idea to write his name in big fat red edding on the picture side of the disc. And LUCKILY only there...I bought it still because I wanted to have that game for years.

Of course.

I take care of my game cases, my game cases take care of my games, & my games take care of me.

I call this.... the circle of love.

If you do not share this circle of love with your games then you're not a gamer.

Ever since the N64 days. I can't begin to tell you how bad my OCD has come to this :| I've given up on my collection now. Sold it all which are practically brand new and as I don't collect anymore I just buy 2nd hand copies.

What's even worse is I can't understand how people can scratch UMD discs. The disc is enclosed with a clear case... makes you think what people do to their games :S

Little brothers and sisters who aren't allowed to play with the console, so they play with the game itself, is my guess.

Very simply put, but completely my style of thinking, lol. I tell you, it boggles my mind when I do go to GS and see the mountains of 'generic' cases on the shelves and I think 'WTF!! Whaddaya doing eatin' the damn original cases??!'. Seriously, I mean, 'maybe' I can get it if it's a kid that does it, but if you're a grown-ass man/woman gamer there's no excuse you shouldn't be maintaining your games in their original cases.....:|

I'm glad some people share my view about taking care of their video games. Does anyone know where I can get replacement PS2 cases and DVD cases? Some of my games have no cases or are too beat up. Also anyone know anything about building a one shelf book cases, so I have somewhere to neatly place my DVDs and PS2 games with no chance of being damaged.

I do now. When I was younger I was notorious for throwing away N64, SNES and cardboard boxed genesis games, mostly because they'd get beat up over time and I figured I would have no use for them. Now that all console video games are disk based, keeping the case in tact is a must. I have gone beyond that and make sure the case, care insert, manual, and any extras are taken care of as much as possible. I like to try to keep all my games and cases in mint condition now :p
