Do you take your time playing video games?

I ask this because I'm mainly wanting to know whether if you rush through a game because there's a better game coming out that you want to play & ultimately want to be able to appreciate that game without having to jump between what you're playing & what you want to play. If that makes sense...(Maybe it's just me who likes to appreciate playing one game at a time.)

I take my time 90% of my playthroughs. It mostly depends on the game. I'll rush through Gears of War, Uncharted, God of War and Mario but I'll take my time with Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Batman and Spiderman as well as jrpg's like Persona and Hyperdimension Neptunia.

I always jump in between games. Regardless of how long I'm taking to finish. There's just too much out there to stick with one game at a time.

@nepu7supastar7: I agree on rushing through Uncharted. Great games but apart from the main objectives there's really not much else to do. (Still haven't played 4 btw.)

I always take my time with every games, even longer open-world games for that matter. I want to make sure I saw, collect, explore, doing side quests, and everything I can before continuing the main course of the game. Take Witcher 3 for example, it took me 4 months to beat the game during my first playthrough, the game is so huge, I was doing lots of side quest & exploring places so yeah, I love taking my time on all games and I never ever rush a game, even when I replay a game but I can however rush certain parts because I already know what's going to happen next.

Depends if it's a old game I'll skip the cutscenes and get right to the action most of the time. I always take my time with new games like with RE2 I know I'm going to be looking at every little detail in the game.

Quest to a last story boss I'm usually fairly swift, extra objectives and side quests I take my time on a second or third run. While I beat Bloodborne on the day it was released (had the whole day off) then went for PvP, didn't face Ebrietas and Pthumerian till I dunno, eight months later. Very different with Monster Hunter: World, was facing temps on day-two but on that note, I've been playing MH since the PSP_

Usually it's because I know my working hours can be demanding so have to make quick pace of consuming gaming content, considering I'm a forum dweller here, GFAQ, and 4Gamer games will usually be spoilt if I don't act fast. Also not one to really stand around and take pictures, I'm very into gaming mechanics and possibilities so look for ways to advance one could say.

Sometimes though games are just short. Love Owlboy but beat that game in about two hours, two more to get 100%.

*On that note I'm taking a work day-off for Resident Evil 2 Remake, feel I haven't shut up about this game for four years. I know not many around here like the series but for those that do? We've made it!! (￣▽￣)ノ

As a kid I would. And tried to get all extra content and secrets.

Now I’m lucky to finish a game. I have several games in the plastic wrap still.

I try to get into them but just can’t like I used to.

For me it is highly subjective. I depends on the gameplay features, narrative, overall content and possible genre that is implemented for the game in question.

Even i am eager to finish the game to play another one , i take my time to complete all side quests , secondary objects , explore all places etc.. i want to fully enjoy the game before moving to another one.

Sometimes I'll beat it and move on straight away but other games, I'll take my time and relish

I rushed through red dead 2 which I regret as I didn't connect as well as the first because of it.

I only use playthrough if I really can't find the sollution.. But in most of the cases I try to do it without. Its more fun that way :p

On the flip side, if I'm not enjoying a game I'll drop it real fast, regardless of how much I spent on it.

I'm currently moving through RE2 very slowly and methodically, and enjoying it the whole way through. I'm only 3 hours on the clock in.

I used to power through games a lot, and it got to the point where a lot of the time I wasn't even enjoying the game. I was sort of just going through the motions.

But I'm getting much better as I get older at taking my time and enjoying the game. And I'm finding I'm enjoying gaming more now.

Yep. 12 hours C rank first run. Trying to get high ranks in the first play-through is like gulping expensive whisky without swishing it around your mouth.

Or spitting it out if you're really posh.

I played through the One Shot demo slowly and just barely didn't beat it the first time through. Fortunately I have all three platforms so I had three shots at it. Beat it the second time through in 17 minutes. When the trailer played and Hunk showed up, I was like "that's cool but Tofu or GTFO" and then two seconds later Tofu rolls across the screen. I literally "woohoo"ed.

If a game ties rank to playthrough time, I absolutely agree. Especially with an atmospheric game like a survival horror game. The environments in RE2 are so richly detailed. It's a shame to just sprint through the rooms (even though there's a good change you're being chased by something). I've gotten to a point in the game where I've basically almost completely cleared the Police Station to the point where I can safely explore almost all of it. I'm -really- grateful they included the red/blue map colors to let you know when you're completely finished with a room.

Some games base the rank on stealth or not killing more than you have to. If you get a high rank on a mission in Hitman, that usually means you really took your time on that particular mission (sometimes hours).

Survival Horror is fun genre that has certainly had different developers give different flavors of the horror/ and psychological horror experience. To throw a forgotten gem I'm quite the fan of Demento also known as Haunting Ground, the somewhat successor to the Clock Tower franchise. More puzzle than action but the dog system linked to survival is always fun for me.

Wish I played more Silent Hill but only played some of them, one of which is the commonly requested Silent Hill 2. The atmosphere is really good in those games. Puzzles can be good as well.

Can never get into the hide n' seek horror games like Isolation and Outlast, which I usually dub Stealth Horror. Know they're an entirely different horror experience, but I mostly find them overly restrictive due to the lack of choice, very repetitive.

The Clock Tower series and Haunting Ground were still pretty "run and hide" type games, but the dog in HG was a cool idea. If you only ever play one SH, make it SH2. It's dated but for its era it still holds up.

I get what you're saying about Isolation and Outlast, and it comes back to the topic of this thread. Some games don't really give you a choice because trying to play fast just results in failure/death. Alien Isolation is a great example. I really, really wanted to like that game because it did so many things right. The graphics, sound, atmosphere, premise, etc all nailed the aesthetic of one of my favorite franchises of all time, even going back to the horror roots of the first movie. But they torpedoed it with the pacing and difficulty curve. The Alien is an awesome monster to have to hide from, and the AI is great, but you have to spend a -lot- of time hiding under desks and in lockers and that slows the game down way too much. Combine that with frustratingly spaced save points it pretty much killed the game for me. I don't mind challenge, but beating my head against a wall trying to get past a part and just dying literally dozens of times and having to backtrack each time just isn't fun.

I love taking my time in games, especially RPG's and games with a well written story. I'm the kind of player that intentionally goes the wrong way first in every game where it's possible, I love exploring environments and looking for secrets and hidden goodies. If I see a new game coming out that I know I'll want, I'll usually just get it, and then wait to start it till I finish my current game on my own time, or sometimes play more than one at once, switching back and forth depending on the mood I'm in.

I try to. I could never understand speedruns, for example. I'd rather take longer than normal than go faster. Smell the roses and get my money's worth, I say

Same here, i'm playing Tomb Raider 2013 with a friend and we are aiming for 100% completion, all the tombs and all the weapon upgrades and all the collectables. We are listening to all the story bits and it's all worth it imo. Really good game, but it depends on the game itself. Some games are pretty average like Evoland, and i don't feel like 100%'ing that game, i didn't even enjoy the 2 hours it took me to finish the game lol.

Depends on how long the game is and how I feel about it throughout the playthrough.

Kingdom hearts 3? Did almost everything, didn't beat the story until 51 hours, finished up at 63 hours.

Darksiders 2? Started getting really bored after 15 hours, rushed through and finished the story.

Some games are longer than they need to be. But I tend to not rush.

The only time I do not rush through the game is when I activate cheats or if I have a lot of skills,abilities or if my character is overpowered. I love being the god,the unstoppable one. It is very cathartic to use trainer in dark souls 3 (offline). So I always kill the bosses and enemies in that game slowly. It feels nice to slowly destroy something when it annoyed you first.

I rarely rush through any game. I like to take my time and explore. I rarely get 100% either, I just like to increase immersion. I'm about 50 hours into Kingdom Hearts 3 and probably only about halfway through. It took me 185 hours to beat Persona 5 lol

I'm a grinder. I take a lot of time with my games. The problem is that sometimes I take so long, that I get bored with the game, and end up not finishing it.

To be honest, no I don't, I don't really enjoy the stories publishers do nowadays.

Games like tomb raider i take my time and enjoy the story. Others I regret running through like red dead 2 looking back. Shooters are a different animal all together.

yep, i do. working now but still try to play 1 or 2 games of ROS or LOL in my luch break. though i know i will be very tired in the afternoon. i also spend 2 to 3 hours in the weekend every now and then i have to play some games of LOL.

I can have more than one game at a time but I take my time.

I did follow the trend and play every big game coming out during the PS3 and then felt empty very empty ... it was like a Trophy hunt ... in the end it doesn't feel satisfying for me.

It isn't for me.

Normally a 30h game can take me a month to finish and a lot more if I try side quest etc.

Bloodborne took me a year to get the platinum with a few months of rest in between.

I remember taking Final Fantasy XIII trilogy all at once in a year ... all got the platinum for them but it was brutal.

Or like Persona 5 took me 100 hours in like 3 or 4 months and was exausted at the end. While P4G I did 3 playthrough in the same amount of time and saw all 3 ending.

Depends heavily on the game. If I'm invested in it, I'll try and do as much as possible. Case in point, I 100%'d Steamworld Dig 2 in about 3 days, but that was almost nonstop playing. Other times I will rush through if I'm not crazy about it but still feel the need to beat it, like the recent No More Heroes game, which was overwhelmingly disappointing. On the whole, I'd say, yes I take my time, but it does depend on the game itself.
