It took what 7 did, which was not really that good of a game, and just opened up a better gaming world. State of the art graphics, great controls, a real-time combat replacing the slow and repetitiveness seen in many other FF games. Lots of content, exploration, just everything done right, and obviously on the top of the Final Fantasy charts. Do any of you guys think Crisis Core is the best Final Fantasy of all time?

pretty much stopped taking you seriously at that point.

to answer your question, no, Crisis Core is not anywhere close to being the best final fantasy.

FFVII, FFVI, FFIV, FFIX, FFXII, FFX.... all better than Crisis Core in my opinion.

Except it doesn't do everything right and it's far from the being the best FF game. Let alone a good JRPG.. It's pretty average imo.. I'll break this down...

- the combat is incredibly repatetive and relies too much on button mashing to win and getting lucky on the slot machine.

- the materia system is utterly worthless on normal difficulty as you can get through the majority of the game with button mashing the default attack and the first Cure materia. Granted that hard mode does fix this to a certain extent. It doesn't make the combat any less button mashy, you just have to dodge a hell of a lot more.

- Grinding in this game is BS. What happened to killing an enemy and gaining experience in order to get stronger? Well they replaced that with a slot machine.. Just run on the spot and hope Zack scores lucky on the slots.

- materia fusion is a good idea but not actually needed. Getting good results out of it requires that you grind your materias to the max, only grinding in this game relies on a slot machine which is incredibly slow and painful.

- 80% of the game is nothing but repetative boring side fetch-missions. Go there kill that, win prize, mission complete over and over and over again.

- the humor this game tries to portray is not funny in the slightest. Zack is not funny even though he tries to be, I can't take him seriously as a main character. He's a very poor attempt at comic relief. The only thing I found funny about this game is the fact that it got a 9.0 on gamespot.

- the story fails at being interesting. What is all this about genesis clones and angelo. I couldn't care less about these characters. The only thing that really connects to FF7 is the Sephiroth going insane scenario and the ending. The rest is just filler material.

- music is good but it's not final fantasy good. Keep this guitar trash out of my JRPGs would you kindly.. The melodies thatNobuo Uematsu once created are far better and way more immersive.

- exploration in this game is bare bones. You essentially just teleport to these maps from a save point. I'd rather explore a deep forfilling world map. FFVII was an adventure and a experience and FF7 Crisis Core was essentially just a quest hub with a teleport.

I could probably go on but I think I've made my point. Granted this is all just my opinion. I can understand people liked this game but my guess would be it would have to be one of your very first RPGs for you to truly think this is better than the past iterarations of JRPGs.

7 out of 16? No, I think you misunderstood, "Crisis Core" is not 7th, and the "......" part means there are more, but i just didn't bother typing them all.

Crisis Core is at the bottom with FFX-2 & Dirge of Cerberus as one of the worst Final Fantasies.

No, Crisis Core is pretty good, but I wouldn't call it the best Final Fantasy game. It's not even as good as the original FFVII.

Agreed. I liked a few things about Crisis Core and I'm not really even much of a FF fan but I'd take FF4, FF6, FF9, FF12, and Tactics over it anyday (I never played 7 or 3).

you should play 7. its not too expensive now, espeically from PSN. its a totally different type of game from CC , the gameplay is similar to the older FF games, so nothing to do with CC .

I think it's ridiculous that the new cool trend is to hate on FFVII. Believe me, I'm not one of that game's d!ckriders. The game hasn't aged particularly well (especially visually) and it is b!tchslapped by FFIX, but to say "it's was not that good of a game" is silly IMO.

OP, how can you say FF7 was not a good game? Did you play it when it first came out, because a 10+ year old game obviously isn't going to really hold up that much? I enjoyed Crisis Core but no real FF fan would ever call Crisis Core even close to their favourite. Which other FF games have you played? And when did you play them?

IMO the haters are just a bunch of kids who decided to try the game now and expect it to still hold up as an amazing game.

Id say its just because there are people who like to go against the mainstream for the sake of it. not that the mainstream is always right of course.

I played all the FF in the order of which they were released including the just as bad first one when it came out. FF7 is a terrible game, it makes no sense I am getting told that I never played it or were not around, I was, and it's not good. At all. Also I am not a fan of anything, so i would not be blinded into thinking it was good because I have fan feelings about the series. I play at least decent games, and FF7 is not a decent game IMO. You may say you do not agree. But it won't change my mind.

The first final fantasy was bad? Lol your opinion is your opinion, but when it comes to FF1 and FF7 I think any credible game critic would disagree with you.

What exactly was bad about FF7 to you? The graphicswere state of the art for the time. The FMVsunparalleled, and oh god I hope your kidding when you say Crisis Core has more content than FF7...

Crisis Core felt like a game that was trying to rip itself out of its main franchise. The debut of a new system, new characters, and how very little you got to see the original cast of characters in the first game besides Seph and Aeris/th. I thought the game was very linear though and lacked exploration. If there was any kind of exploration i nthe game I didn't notice it. I did enjoy Zacks character a lot more than Clouds character though. I really hate the depressed type of main characters in these games. I don't know why people think its cool to think you're super weak while you're able to cast huge spells, carry a huge weapon, and just completely annihilate monsters with such powerful armor, then 10 minutes later ".... I'm so... weak.... I can't help you...". BRO, YOU JUST TOOK OUT A 100FT TALL SERPENT BY CASTING A FLAMING DEMON IN A LAKE.

Zacks character was a lot more positive and a lot more enjoyable to be IMO. Genesis and Angeal were also some of the more interesting characters in the series. I liked Genesis's obsession with that play he's always carrying around and the chain he had with Angeal and Sephiroth. It brought a lot of light onto Sephiroths real character before he went nuts to. It was good to know that Sephiroth was once human (mentally). The story however doesn't touch the original Final Fantasy 7 story though. As much as I hate depressed characters, the story in 7 was executed and portrayed beautifully. Clouds obsession with living for Zack, Tifas frustration toward her friend and not being able to remember things he does (also because Cloud lied), the history behind RedXIII, and the history behind Aeris and her heritage were all executed very well.

I disagree.

Just like Dino Crisis, FF8/9, Chrono Cross and a few other games, for the most part of the game FF7 used pre rendered pics instead of textured polygons, even in battle scenes. From a technical standpoint it was in no way state of the art.

I know the visuals were pre-rendered but look at any review of the game, like GS's review of it for example, they all point out how good its "top-notch graphics". Sure now it may look silly, but back then, it was pretty great. And you can't compare FF8 and 9 to FF7's graphics because they came out after -_- (Note that i said for the time)

I almost feel as if tc is trolling me. No, CC is not the best FF game, nor is it anywhere near the top.

Actually, the more I think about it, CC may be my least favorite FF game played, and I've played almost all of them (all but Mystic Quest, XIV, and the sequel to XII on DS at least off the top of my head).

well, I dont know if Id put it as low as Dirge of Cerberus , even FF10-2 doesnt get that label.

dirge was a joke of a game Darkman2007

Oh come on, Dirge was a horrid game,, but it wasn't THAT bad :P

Sure the plot made no sense and the character models and gameplay were pretty average, but the sound, particle effects, art, and fmv's were nice. The gameplay even supported kb/m control.

And best of all, you could play. as. VINCENT , That automatically gets the game props in my book!
