theres a crapload of good looking games coming out this year but i doubt they gonna get 10's a whole lot of 9.5's though
whoever said they hated the rating system i agree whole heartedly
I used to think (and liked to think) that Gamespot would never give another 10, ever. Now with the new .5 system, all bets are off and a 10 seems a little more possible.DarkCatalyst
I'm going to second this statement.
Personally I don't think a 10 should be possible this year simply because of the state of hardware this year. IMHO I think that in order for a game to be a 10 it must have perfect timing in a systems development time as well as being a great game.
What I'm trying to say is that in order for a game to be perfect everything must peak at the same time.
Hardware sophistication (As good as the system will be technically)
Hardware utilization (The game developer must milk every ounce of the hardware.)
Programming experience with the platform.
Then comes game quality and all the other facets like story, graphics and all the other things we rate games on. Its kind of like bull riding. If your bull sucks it counts against your score. So many things factor in and must be nailed from multiplayer to save and menu interface in a game. Its not enough to have a great game anymore you have to have the entire package.
With Vista , PS3, Wii, all brand new 360 has the best chance for one but I still think it's too young. Game company's really didn't start milking the PS2's full potential until just 2 years ago if that. Same thing with XP.

So only major PS3 exclusives have a chance at getting 10's,
damn, I didn't even know they had this new rating system, I absolutely hate this new rating system. Games that will get 10s won't mean as much anymore. I really hope gamespot change the rating system back and rerate all the games rated under this backwards system of rating, whoever thought of this new rating system really do suck.X5Terminator
As much as I dislike the new system, I love the idea of cheapening the 10. It'll hopefully keep the forums from going as insane if/when one is handed out.
With the new rating system getting a 9.5 is gonna be a feat in itself let alone a 10. The highest a PC game has ever scored is 9.6 and that was with Diablo back in 1996. But if you apply the new rating system to Diablo, it would only be 9.5 (rounding down to 0.5).
So BioShock getting a 10 is gonna be a far-king long shot. It would have to get 9.7 then rounded up to a final 10 score, which I don't see ever happening with any PC title. Period.

i'm glad someone else mentioned that sorry list... even if yesterday i played my first game, i'd know that those games don't stand a chance in hell of being 10's
if bioshock got above a 9.5 on the old system then it should get a ten on this system from 9.6 to 10 is a ten now isnt it?neXtgenisis
No, it's round to the nearest .5.
I bet we're going to see a lot more 10s on Gamespot, which is a bit sad because I liked the fact that it was an utterly high standard.
Let's take Bioshock for example. Let's say everything about the game is absolutely amazing, except for one small hitch- if the action is extremely heavy, the framerate takes a small hit and it's not quite smooth. The instances are rare, but it's noticeable when it happens.
Do you really take .5 off a game just for a noticable but fairly uncommon framerate drop? Under the old system, they would probably just dock a point off graphics and give it a 9.8- very very high quality, but not perfect. Now? I have no idea, but I'm willing to bet that it will be overlooked and given a 10.
So looks like Bioshock is guaranteed to get a 10 here. Anything under would be a huge disappointment. banjobear_basic
You are setting it up to be the next Zelda TP, and I don't think anyone here wants to see a repeat of the chaos that was caused in GGD when that review came out. I don't care what the game gets, because I have already decided for myself that it is a must play, and if I'm dissappointed so be it...But odds are that it still will be heads and shoulders above alot of the redundant FPS's that have been put out in the past few years.

There's no rounding involved in the new system. It's not like they grade it with the five categories like with the old one and then convert it. It's a whole new system with .5 increments. So it's not like every game with an 8.7 would round up to 9.0 if it were reviewed wit the new system. It's just a completely different way to rate the games, without categories.
